Re-use bottles for 2nd baby or buy new?

I have a 2 1/2 yr.old and still have all the bottles, nipples and paci's in all sizes. I don't want to re-use them. I feel like they fall under the category of personal item, plus they were heavily used for 18 month of 1DS's. life. But I know if I suggest buying all new for this 2nd little one, my DH is going to debate me over the issue.  So I need advice on this from some other moms.  Re-use or buy new?

  • The rubber in the bottle and pacifier nipples breaks down, so I would re-buy them. We're going to try and re-use the bottles, but who knows if this LO will take them.

  • I plan to try and reuse the actual bottle, but bought new nipples and inserts (we use Dr. Brown's). I haven't brought the bottles out of storage yet, so it will depend on how they look when I take them out and run them through the dishwasher.

  • We used playtex drop ins the first time and we will definitely be reusing the bottles themselves and the rings. We bought new nipples and obviously new liners, since you use a fresh one with each bottle.

  • We are planning on reusing bottles and buying new nipples for them.

Same, unless my coworker follows through on her offer to give me her glass bottles.

  • I'm buying all new ones. We've had them since DD was born and it's just time to replace them

  • I will be reusing everything that is in good condition.  Already pulled them out, just need to run them through the dishwasher.

  • I bought new bottles for DS2 and I'll buy new bottles for these two.  I only own 4 bottles, since I BF and rarely use them.  Plus after being used/stored they have all taken on a weird orange tinge so I'm getting rid of them.

  • My DD is 2.5, we threw out her bottles and are buying new.

  • I'm going to pull mine out and have a look. They were only used for 12 months, and even then, each size was used less than that. If the nipples look good we'll use them - if she'll take them. I'll probably buy new paci's.

  • Anything with hard plastic I'm reusing such as the bottles themselves. I'm buying new pacifiers and nipples however.

  • We bought new. The nipples were definitely worn and some leaked (because we had put them in the dishwasher..) and I just wanted to start fresh with this LO. Target had some great deals on clearance, but bottles go on sale often depending on what brand, it's not like its a HUGE money item!

DS1 didn't really use pacifiers so I can't really comment on those.

  • Im so glad you asked this!  After reading all the comments, I will probably run everything through the dishwasher and see how they all look, and just buy new nipples for them.  I did buy new 4oz. bottles cause i used Avent in the beginning and they leaked so bad.  But I saved all the 8 oz. bottles.
