Sequim/PA moms.

Hello all!

I am new to the Sequim/PA area and would love to find other moms to chat with!

Re: Sequim/PA moms.

  • I am also pretty new to the area.  Are you expecting or already a mama?

  • Loading the player...
  • My hubby and I are expecting our fourth little one in May!  So far we love the area, we have met a few people now.  I am so excited for spring!  The lovely sunny day we had three days ago was so nice!
  • Spring is coming!  It is wonderful.  I cannot wait to be able to walk everywhere without freezing. I recently moved from NC, so the I am getting use to the colder climate.  Congrats on your pregnancy!  I am expecting my first in July!  We are uber excited for this big change.  Have you found any mama groups around here yet?  I really would like to meet some (as there are not many) of the parents here.

  • Hello to you both! I am a Sequim Mama I have a 1 year old son and one on the way due in September. You get used to the crappy weather, and the parks are always crowded on the first good spring day :)

I grew up here, left when I was 18 to go to college in seattle and lived there and in portland for a few years now I"m back to raise my family here.

As far as mama groups there is Pre-3...I haven't tried it yet but I hear good things

    https://www.pre3.org/

I'm in the Aspire toddler music group and my son loves it Aspire also has TONS of other classes

    https://www.aspireacademy.us/welcome

and if randomly you are native american (i'm part of the Jamestown S'Klallam tribe here) they have a baby/mama group that meets every week.

I've also had a hard time making mom friends since i've moved back, everyone i knew from highschool (that I liked) moved away or they dont have kids.  I'm happy to see someone on the bump reaching out :)

    Welcome to Sequim/PA!

    Lil surprise due October 18th!

  • Hi!

It's so cool to see other mom's in the area are on the bump!

My little's are nine down to two, baby no 4 will be here in May.   Are ether of you into natural living?

I think of myself as semi-crunchy, I am so excited for the berry's to bloom!  I would love to find a wild foods group, there are so many mushrooms around the property we are living on.  I would love for someone to teach me which ones are edible!

  • We are pretty into natual living...I would say semi crunchy too :) I'm not sure if there are any wild food groups but I have seen posters in QFC for the north olympic meicology (mushrooms) group haha my husband always wants to go to one of their meetings, he's really into foraging for food in the wild, but we never make it. If you find a wild food group let me know...that would be really fun

Nashs farm store has some pretty cool classes for free. If you friend them on  facebook its a really easy way to keep up with their classes and deals :)

What brought your family to the area?

  • I think a lot of people around here are pretty granola as I like to call it.  I am into a lot of things natural, but cannot afford some of the living like organic clothing.  I am looking into a natural delivery at the hospital.

Zenmama, there are soooo many berries here during the summer/early fall.  I picked a few days a week.  I would also like to learn more about picking and eating naturally grown foods.

There is a moms group that I found recently on yahoo called peninsula_moms.  I am hoping to connect with some mommies there too.  It would be nice to get to know some moms before baby #1 comes so that I can have plenty of people to turn to with questions.

Do either of you know where to find good second hand items around here?  I heard there was a good place in Poulsbo, but haven't been yet.  I hate to spend hundreds of bucks on things that I will only use for a month or two.

  • Yea Rumple New Skins in Poulsbo is the best!

  • It's so cool to see a more natural mindset over here!  I'm using the midwife Carol Gouchie, this little one will be born at home like my last three.

I did look into the hospital midwife, they look amazing!  My mom is a midwife so home birth has always seemed like the thing to do.  I am a little scared of hospitals to be honest!  I am all about walking around, eating, and being in my space.

I can't wait for warmer weather, I am so tired of this crappy weather.

We moved over here because we love it, we got rid of all our debt, and our house and headed over!  My hubby is working on getting known in the tattoo world.  (much harder than one would think!)

I am a Doula, working on getting my child birth educators cert.  We make crafty type things to sell on ebay, etsy, at farmers markets and craft sales.  Right now we are an a boho bag kick.

Have ether of you been into the H.O.W.L second hand store?  I was just looking at their website, it looks like they are doing so much for the people of PA!

  • The mindset is definitely different here.  I wanted to do a home birth, but the hubs is very unsure of the support offered and I (being a nurse) know what could go wrong.  So we decided on hospital since there is no birth center here:(

A doula?  That is nice.  Have you been able to attend many deliveries thus far since moving here? How much do you charge?  I am thinking about having a doula.  I just am not sure 100% on anything right now.  I wanted to birth at Olympic, but after seeing the birthing tubs at Jefferson in Port Townsend, I am thinking twice about it.

I haven't been to HOWL.  Where is that?

  • I haven't been to howl yet but i've heard of it...it's in PA

I would HIGHLY recomend jefferson hospital...thats where I had DS they are extremely supportive of natural births... where as Olympic has a very high rate of c-sections. 5 out of 6 of my cousins/friends ended up with c-sections there.

I'm planning to have my next LO at jefferson even though we live closer to sequim now (we lived in PT last year)

  • I would actually love to have my delivery there, but we started with the women's group in PA and now the hubs is not supportive of changing physicians.  I can understand, but I do know that PT is probably better for a natural birth.  They are also certified baby friendly!  That is a high accomplishment.
  • I have heard really good things about the woman's group!  It was recommend to me the same week we moved here.

I have not attended any births in this area, I'm actually not sure when I will be taking clients again.  Chances are I will do PP doula'ing for a while after LO is born.  It's a lot nicer to know what hours are needed from you, than to be on-call with a NB.

I "liked" HOWL on FB and I'm hoping to check them out soon!

We use mostly second hand clothing, I figure it saves clothing from landfills.

I will try and write more later, my sis is coming into town with her new boyfriend tomorrow.  I have a bunch of stuff to do before they get here :)

  • I am a little late to this discussion, but I am continuing it because I do spend a lot of time there.  My inlaws live in Sequim, Washington.

I really like the Port Angeles Baby Store.  I have done consignment there, and it is fun to get good deals.

And if we are there at our inlaws, we like to go to Sequim Community Church.  My son does really good in the nursery school--he calls it the "hot dog" church.  We also have another church in Queen Anne that we go to--and he calls that the "pizza" church.

And we really like SARC--my kids like to go swimming there.  The shallow pool is perfect for little kids.

I love Central Market in Poulsbo.  I like to get strawberry smoothies at the deli if we are driving through Poulsbo.

Did any of you go the Sequim Lavender Festival?  We took our kids there for the first time with our red wagon, and we had the best time.  I went back to Lavender Connection which is one of my favorite lavender farms, and they actually remembered me --I had this picture of myself in this white dress with the lavender in the background.
