Blood and liquid from incision 2 weeks out?

Did anyone experience this? Does this mean I have an infection? It's only a small amount but I can blot it off w a paper towel.

  • Some drainage is normal. Signs of infection include pain, redness, swelling, itching, and warm to the touch. I'd call your ob to be safe.

  • Definitely call and get checked.  I had this happen at 10 days and the abscess opened part of my incision which I now have to pack with gauze.  If you just let the top heal closed the fluid will continue to build so it has to get healed from the inside first.

  • I had the same thing and the nurse is coming in EVERY morning to get it packed to drain the fluid out and change the dressing. Even though it was only a bit of fluid and a small opening it could have ended up pretty serious. She said that without this treatment you can easily get an absess and infection and end up on antibiotics which can interfere with breast feeding.  3 weeks later it has healed and the daily visits have ended!  I am thankful for her quick action!
