Dropping the IF bomb on my employers

Well, I got a copy of the health insurance information from my new job. The coverage outline is basic and says to go to Humana.com for more information but you need to have existing coverage to find out what your employer covers.

Ugh....I really didn't want to have to out myself within the first week but I'm dying to know what, if any, IF coverage they have!!!!   I'm hopeful for donor coverage, which we don't have currently.

When I pull up the benefits online for all inclusive plans, they say they cover medical expenses for DE and DS but its just a matter of if my employer opted for that plan or not I guess. Oh well....wish me luck for THAT conversation, LOL

Yikes! Have you tried calling Humana? Maybe you could get more info over the phone. That is certainly not a conversation I'd want to have with an employer I just met! Good luck whatever you end up doing!

I think you can just call Humana with your card information and ask if they opted in or out otherwise the HR person should have the companies binder you can just look through so you don't have to ask specifics. Also FYI Humana drug coverage suck some scripts are cheaper at walmart for $4.

My company has a "Summary Plan Description" (SPD) which outlines all of the coverage, including infertility benefits (or lack thereof.) I think this is a common term and document among the insurance world. Maybe your employer or Humana can provide that to you? It's lengthy but will give you all the details you need. Good luck! I hope they do have some good coverage.

I ended up just asking the CFO if he had a copy of the detailed policy....he did!!!!  So I didn't have to out myself and got the information I needed. Unfortunately, they offer ZERO infertility coverage so I guess we're staying with what we've got!
