SIL wedding and wishing I had a crystal ball

So my SIL is getting married in April. I'll be 17 weeks at the time of the wedding and I have no idea how big my belly is going to be. Pre-pregnancy I was not super skinny or anything, I did have a little bit of a tummy but overall I was very proportionate (minus my very large chest) for being 5'7.

I am looking for a dress but am hesitant to buy anything in case I either get a huge baby belly quickly (this is my third pregnancy and had a good sized belly at 17 weeks with my second) or nothing changes and I stay the same size I am now, although I am doubtful about this.

Has anyone gone though this? I guess I am looking for someone who was a little heavier pre-pregnancy and what their belly size was at 17 weeks. Asking too much?

ETA: If you haven't caught on yet, I am super impatient! :)

Re: SIL wedding and wishing I had a crystal ball

  • last year when I was pg we had a couple weddings to attend. Normally I'm on the petite side at five four. But I have a bigger butt lol. Anyway I bought a dress for a wedding in August and thought I'd be able to wear in September also. Boy was I wrong. Your body changes so much from week to week. Honestly if wait a few more weeks before purchasing. I know it's nerve wracking as it gets closer to the wedding. But at least youll be confident it fits you well. Being comfortable is the number one thing!

Thanks. I'm sure I am going to wait but I am the type that needs to plan out every last detail. I literally say to myself/belly every day "just grow and stop making me look fat and start looking pregnant" I'd post my 19 week pic of my belly with my second pregnancy but I'm not 100% sure how.

  • Look for dresses that have an empire waist. Or go a size or two up and you can always get it taken in. I've been to many wedding pregnant and find long dresses to me more flattering with a bump. Good luck!
  • Buy two from places you can easily return like Old Navy or Target. I did that for my shower ordered a bunch and kept one I wanted.

That would work. I would say to figure you will be about the same size at 17 wks or bigger.

  • I was in a wedding at 17w. The dress was very flowy and I bought two sizes up. I wish I had bought three. My bump measured 24w three days before.

  • At 17w I was measuring 25w. I had a growth spurt right before 17w. This is my second pregnancy so I starting showing much faster.

  • I was a size 18 prepregnancy at 5'7". My last pair of regular jeans went into my closet at 15 weeks...and those were the stretchiest ones I had. I'd say get something with an empire waist and some stretch to it?

  • Also a one shoulder dress with flowy skirt. I found those to be both comfy and flattering.

  • I had been very sick and lost about 12 lbs. and so by 17 weeks I was still in my regular clothes.  I would look for an a-line dress, something that flares out under your bustline so that it can accomodate a growing belly.

  • Thanks ladies! I'd love to do a one shoulder number but my lovely (lies, lies, lies) 40F boobs wont allow it. I want to show off my bump so I may just wait until the week before the wedding to find a dress.
