Natural Birth

41w3d and getting discouraged

I had a wonderful homebirth with #3 and just assumed this one would be the same.  I've been experiencing prodromal labor for a month now and yet here I sit at 41w3d still pregnant.  I have to call my MWs tomorrow to figure out the details of the NSTs and everything that they are going to make me schedule at 42w.

I'm starting to get really worried that this baby isn't going to come on its own and I'm going to have to be induced at the hospital or something.  After having such a great experience last time, the thought of having to go to the hospital sounds dreadful.  I can't imagine having to fight with the staff over what I want them doing to my baby or when I want to go home.  Also, because I've seen MWs that don't do typical prenatal testing, I can imagine that I'm going to be treated as if I am positive for everything while I'm there.  It just sounds like a total nightmare.

There is no point to this post really, I'm just feeling discouraged and needed to vent.  I just want my baby here safely and want it to happen at home.

  • I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say I'm really sorry!! : Sending lots of labor dust and prayers that your LO decides to come on his/her own before you get to 42w!

  • I'm sorry, I know you must be miserable.

I went overdue with my 2nd and had tried all the OWT. The final thing I tried was a good-size glass of quality red wine and went into labor within 6 hours. Not sure if you're comfortable trying that but it at least made me relax and chill out a bit ;-)

Hope something happens very soon for you.

I had a glass of wine last night (although it was white and not red).  I was thinking the same thing, like maybe I just wasn't relaxed enough to get things moving.  No luck.

But it did help me sleep better, so I'm probably going to do it again tonight.  Drinks

  • As hard as it is, try to relax. I went through this with DS and it was really hard and frustrating. I tried everything and ended up doing castor oil. It wasn't that bad and it did work. Maybe ask your midwife about it. I've ready the studies where it's been linked to meconium and I'm not convinced that there is causation rather than just correlation since late babies are more likely to pass it anyway and the studies are pretty thin.  Oh and I went until 41 weeks 6 days so right up to the minute....totally know how you feel. Hang in there.

  • It will be ok. Your baby is coming. My DS came on a full moon, so hopefully that will help your tonight. Try to get outside for a walk in the moonlight tonight.

FWIW, we were on the tri boards together last time around and I also remember you from P&CE on TN. I've always been impressed by your strength and I know you can get through this and have the birth that is best for you and this LO. I'll be thinking of you.

  • Have you been able to assess the baby's position? I don't mean head down vs breech, but anterior vs posterior, etc. www.spinningbabies.com has a lot of good info.  My daughter was posterior, we did rebozo sifting for 5 min, she flipped back and I went into labor a few hours later and had my homebirth.

Yes.  Baby is LOA right now.  I'm actually wondering if the baby needs to flip to posterior in order to be born.  2 out of 3 of mine have been posterior so far, so I think I have a funky pelvis that actually prefers to give birth that way.

  • Sorry adamwife. It would be difficult to go to the hospital now. I hope things change soon. I see you're still posting in this thread this morning. Remember, things can change in an instant. GL.

  • They all come out eventually. You will go into labor at some point. I was 24 days late with #1 and fine with it. If she needed to bake a little longer, then so be it. The doctor tried telling me that I had to be induced and I let myself be bullied into an attempted induction. When it didn't work I went back home and waited for her to come out all on her own.

If you are worried about a hospital birth then def make out a detailed birth plan, just in case. But don't get yourself into a negative mind set because the stress is not going to help you. It will only make you fearful and angry.
