ugghh...4 month wakeful

So the first night I hoped it was just a fluke, bad night for her, anything.  But the last four nights have gone exactly the same and I. am. losing. my. mind.

She used to give me a good 5 or 6 hour stretch at the start of the night, now it's maybe two hours. If she falls asleep around 7:30 she'll be up at 9:30 or 10, fromt hen on we're up every hour to hour an a half to reinsert the paci.  Sometimes it works and she goes back down, sometimes I have to try 3 or 4 times.. Somewhere around two I will feed her and then she might sleep for two hours, but then around 4 we start the game all over again, until I give up around 7.  I was doing fine the first couple of nights it went on, but now I feel myself getting tense and dreading bedtime.  This is worse than newborn..it's like she regressed to a whole nother level.  DH helps and takes turns but I wake up to her anyway, I can't sleep through her waking.  I thought the 4 month wakeful would mean another waking, maybe two, but this...this is nuts.

I'm just lost...should I be feeding her more? She's EBF...I did try one night to feed her everytime she got up, but she still woke an hour later and I worried that I was starting a bad habit of night eating that she didn't really need...uggh why don't kids come with manuals.

Re: ugghh...4 month wakeful

  • I remember the 4 month wakeful being absolutely terrible. I didn't feed any extra, DD didn't seem to be hungry though. I don't know if that's the case with your situation or not. It does pass!! It sucks, but it will get back to normal eventually. (Well, however close to normal things can be with an infant.)

  • I have no advice, DS is just shy of 4 months but the last week he has been eating every 2-3 hrs at night, he used to sleep 5-6 hr stretches, so I am fearful the insAnity is about to strike. Hang in there!

  • Same thing is happening here! I know this is completely against what experts say but I have a baby with reflux so what works for us, is me sleeping with my arm propped under him so he is a bit elevated. I am right there when he decides to spit his pacifier out so he doesn't really have time to wake up from it. He is also EBF. Just makes nights a bit easier because I can at least be lying down and getting some semblance of sleep. Cannot wait for the day that we start getting long stretches back and finally get him sleeping in a crib!! You have to do what you have to do though!
