CIO in the MOTN? What do you do?

Ok, so for those who are or have done CIO - Let's say it was two hours since you put your LO to bed. You know their tummies are full and you know their diaper is fine and they were sleeping fine and usually do sleep fine from the time you put them to bed until about 4am-ish when your LO usually crys out for their MOTN bottle.

So if they are waking up a few hours after you put them down - do you let your LO cry a little and see if they settle down and if they do great and if not then go check on them after 15 minutes or do you go in right away?

Our LO usually doesn't wake up much during the night unless it is time for his bottle so I'm just not sure how to deal with this and wonder what others do.

I can't see your siggy since I am mobile but it's definitely way too early to CIO for my LO. I typically go right into the room especially if it has been a few hours since nursing. I would assume he's still hungry or maybe has a dirty diaper.

I know for a fact that he isn't hungry because when he is hungry the cry gets louder and louder until I go in and I went in the other night and checked and his diaper was fine. He is usually really good about putting himself back to sleep so I'm hoping this isn't a new thing. And if he wakes up at 2am or later - I know he is hungry so we always go and feed him. I'm not trying to get out of MOTN feedings - but I know there is times that he is waking up and crying and he isn't hungry - he just can't go back to sleep.

For me, mine are crying between 1:30am-3:30am because they want their paci's back in their mouth. They do one MOTN feeding at 4:30am. I don't feel like they are ready for CIO, so I go right in there and put a paci in their mouths. They go right back to sleep. They just started putting their thumbs/ fingers in their mouth... So I'm really hoping they are starting to FINALLY self soothe. Can you put a paci in his mouth?

CIO is unpopular here but it worked for us. He was exhausted from so many night wakings I was tired but didn't mind getting up as much as he needed, but his pediatrician recommended CIO because she feels sleep is important to their development. She insisted that biologically my LO could go 8 hours without eating and he was waking more from habit than hunger. Here is what I do I put him down at 8 or 8:30. I sneak in and dreamfeed him at 10:30. If he wakes before 6am then I let him cry for 15 min before I go to him. He's only cried for more than 15 minutes once. I honestly believe through this process he has learned how to fall asleep independently. Now even the act of putting him to sleep initially is a piece of cake. I read Healthy Sleep Happy Child then implemented what I thought would work for my LO, I feel like you have to do what works for your child. I'm not sure why CIO before 6 months is so taboo on TB. Many pediatricians support it at 4 months. My son is a different child now that he is sleeping longer. I will probably get crucified for my opinion but IRL I think CIO after 4 months is much more common.

For a variety of reasons dd is pretty routine on her wake ups and easy to tell which ones are for hunger and which ones are broken sleep patterns. When it's hunger I go in quickly and nurse her. When it's one of the other times I let her CIOwe use a Ferber approach where I check in on her in 5 minute increments. I did this with dd1 and we're comfortable doing it at her age though I know some people would think its a little early.

When my baby cries in the middle of the night I put a pacifier in her mouth and if that doesn't work then I pick her up. If it's two hours after she ate last then i'm sure she's hungry. I don't believe in CIO but that's just me.
