I only have two, but for me I would say it didn't take long. I gained 40 pounds during pregnancy and by about 4-5 months pp I was back into my old clothes. At 7 months pp I was back at my pre preg weight of 115.
I didn't exercise, other than walking with the stroller.
I didn't diet either, other than eating with common sense. I.E. no big macs, large fries, steaks over 6 oz, and lots of water.
I am now exercising a few times a week at the Y. I do classes 2-3 times a week for an hour, and then do weights/cardio on my own 1-2 days.
You can lose the weight! The thing I hear from moms a lot is that they don't have time to exercise or eat healthy. It is no easier to microwave a pizza than it is to eat a salad or some yogurt. There are also lots of exercise facilities that have childcare. The YMCA has been a godsend for us.
ETA: I breastfed and I think that made all the difference in the world!
