My Pets...

are driving me NUTS!!  I seriously want every last one of them out of my house - for good!  I used to think it was crazy how people would give up their pets as soon as they had kids, but I totally get it now.  The cat hair is accumulating everywhere now that we don't make time to brush them anymore (we have 2).  Their constant jumping in the way, whining to get in or out of a room, prancing on the counters and kitchen table and messing with the clean bottles that are drying makes me want to scream.  And the dog . . . he's constantly jumping on and off the couch wanting attention while I'm pumping, running around getting on the play gym, sitting on the baby's blankets if not put away, etc.  I don't really mean this, but ugh!!  Too much.

  • Our three cats are the same way. They sometimes sleep in DD's crib or on her changing pad or her clothes or whatever is left out. They're acting up more and more now, but they used to be crazy anyhow. I find that if I take the time to give them more attention or have them sit on or with me when I'm feeding her, they act up less. They're just wanting attention they used to get before LO stole it from them! They're my first babies and I'd never think of getting rid of them, so we just deal. And if all else fails, ignore the bad behavior and only reward them with attention when they're good!

  • I feel the same! It's so sad. The fur and barking drives me nuts! And I can't yell at them to stop since that would also wake/startle LO. I think it'll be better when he's older and I won't mind if fur gets on him and he'll know it's his dogs making the loud noises.
  • Our dog does all those things (except jumping on the counter) but since he's usually trying to get to the baby to give him kisses we're pretty okay with it. He's so worried every time the baby cries he licks LO's face, whines, runs in & out of the room until you go pick up LO. This morning the neighbor kids (uncontrolled, rude, brats that we're always having issues with) were outside waiting for their bus & our dog jumped on the bed & laid down in front of LO & growled out the window until they got on the bus.

The dogs will happily lick up the spills. And the kids can get a ride on the pet's back over the baby gate.

  • We have talked for a long time about finding a good home for our cats but I can't just give my babies away! I've had them since they were around 4 weeks old and bottle fed them. They're only bad when they're craving attention and I just have to take a deep breath and give them attention. Plus, my 7 year old SD would have a complete cow if she came this summer and they were gone.

My 80lb lab is annoying as crap 99 percent of the time 'but that was him before Mili was born. He's got a screw loose or something and is just silly. I feel HORRIBLE I can't give him the attention he needs. He doesn't get on her stuff, he's actually really protective. He just starts whining everytime I go to pump/feed because he knows HE used to be the one sitting with his head in my lap. During nap time I have him get on the couch and I rub his head and talk to him. Once the weather gets nicer I plan on putting the baby in the carrier and taking him on walks. Wearing him out does wonders.

I just couldn't get rid of my animals just because I had a baby.

  • My dogs don't annoy me since our boxer was raised with SD as a baby, and our bulldog is just fat and lazy and couldn't care less, but the cat drives me BSC. I always threaten to give her away but I could never. She was just so used to being able to be on me all.the.time and sleep in our room and now that's changed. I try to love on her as much as possible though, so she doesn't go crazy trying to get attention.
