Trying to Get Pregnant

STM ?

For those of you that have multiple LOs already, when did you start TTC after baby 1?

Were you BFing?

How close in age are your LOs and what do you think the best age range is between LOs?

Re: STM ?

  • We did not TTC after LO1.  We just happened to get lucky :).  DD was an IVF/ICSI baby and DS was a "we barely had sex and I was still nursing" baby.  VERY VERY unexpected.

Yes, I was still BFing a few times per day.  I had experienced one period but it was light and I wasn't sure it was actually a real period.

    Mine are 16 months apart.

We will be TTC #3 starting this July and if we get pregnant in the first 3-6 months the baby will be about 3.5 years younger than DS and about 5 years younger than DD.  I like the close age gap (16 months) of my first two, but I wasn't ready to TTC that soon again for a host of reasons.  Right now we are waiting until the summer because we are moving this winter (again, we are military) and I don't want to be 9 months pregnant or have a brand new baby when we move.  So we are waiting until my earliest due date would be April or May.  I'm honestly hoping for a Fall 2014 baby :).

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

  • I am working on number 2 now. My DS is 4 so they will be at least 5 years apart. I never thought my kids would be that far apart, but life happens.

I did read an article, after googling "child spacing", a few years back. It said that studies showed it was best to have siblings either less than two year apart or more than 4 years apart. It said closer in age there is less fighting and jealousy because the oldest doesn't remember life without the other one and farther apart because the older sibling is more helpful and understanding.

  • We didn't "try" for DD #2. I was still BF our oldest and hadn't had my first PP period yet. She was a happy surprise.

My girls are 16 months apart, and while #2 wasn't planned we won't have had it any other way. We thought we were done after 2, but late last year I started having baby fever. I finally got DH on board and we've been TTC #3 since October. I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle, so I'm currently on cycle # 5.

  • We started trying for #2 when Emily was almost 3 years old.

They are just about 3.5 years apart, which what we were aiming for.

If we were to get pregnant right now, LO would be born a month after Abby turns 3...I think its a good range, it works for us.  At 3 they are little more independent and can understand a little bit better.

Some prefer a year apart...that would be too close for me.

I'm waiting to start ovulating again, and then we'll a start actively TTC.

    Were you BFing?

Yes. Still going strong at 16 months. I plan to let him wean himself when he is ready. Going to let nature/DS' needs decide when DS is ready for a sibling.

How close in age are your LOs and what do you think the best age range is between LOs?

Ideally we'll space our children no more than 3 years apart and no less than 2 years apart, but we'll see what's in store for us.

I wish that had been true for my middle brother and I. There's 9 years between us and he's resented me since I was born for taking his place as the baby. I have friends who have the same age gap and have great relationships and I've always been jealous of that.

  • Thank you for the responses ladies.

I am the oldest sibling of 5, my closest sibling being a year apart in age exactly (and I feel that was too close due to competition/us both being girls), and my other siblings are 6, 12, and 19 years apart (yes I have a younger brother who is 5-and an uncle...) and while I love them I am just not as close to them as I am my sister that is only a year apart from me (even though we fought... a lot).

DH and I would definitely like to have 2 and I would like to SAH with both of them so we are beginning to think that we should try to start working on #2 sometime soon, our LO is almost 6 months right now.  I'm thinking probably trying when he's a little over a year.

Again thanks for the responses and GL to those of you who are trying right now! :)
