anything else think the bump fruit and vegetable measurements are wrong? I'm 17 weeks today and it says baby is the size of an onion, but they also say 5.1 inches. I'm looking at a ruler, and that's a pretty big onion.
I still don't get how a lime is for like 10 weeks and a lemon for 14? Aren't they about the same size?
Lemons are alot larger than limes, typically. I mean, you can find big limes and small lemons, but I always considered lemon to be larger.
I bought the biggest onion I have ever seen last week, and it was probably 5 1/2 inches. Maybe there are giant mutant onions somewhere in the world, but not in my grocery store.
ETA: I just looked at the food chart, and it looks like they are measuring across the middle of the onion instead of top to bottom. Vidallia onions can get very big around.
I was definitely thinking the same thing this week. Last week too, when I was looking at avocados. I feel like the biggest item so far has actually been a naval orange, but it also all depends on which size fruits and veggies you are choosing I suppose. Also, does all this fruit/veggie comparison make anyone else look at the produce section a bit differently? I certainly do!

I think the banana one, which is further along is the most bizarre. It is all these round fruits and then BAM your baby suddenly becomes a banana shape? WTH? Really? There are not better fruits than banana to describe that size?

I say we make up our own chart! There have GOT to be better comparisons other than fruits and vegetables. I did see a guy's blog where he compared the baby to "manly" things, lol.
Seriously - the Bump ticker thing makes no sense to me. They should specify: mutant onion, hass avocado or Florida avocado, key lime, regular lime? My baby and I are confused, lol.

THIS! I was reading a head on the fruit sizes after my BFP, and I was so confused. I still laugh about it, and DH doesn't get it. His biggest issue is that he thinks lemons and limes are the same size. Reallly?? Baby being compared to all round fruits/veggies then suddenly they're gonna throw a banana in there doesn't weird you out??
The problem is that the fruit tickers uses round things for something that is actually supposed to be a length measurement.
When your baby is "as big as" an onion, it is as long (crown to rump length) of the DIAMETER of the onion. With the banana, it's a little easier to understand because it's not round - your baby's crown to rump length is similar to the length of a banana.
Yeah, the weirdest one for me is it says orange this week and next week is an avocado. I'm from FL and have never seen an avocado that was bigger than an orange! I have started just looking at the inches instead, it's a lot easier for me to visualize that way.

I thought this same thing! I also looke ahead and what the hell is a jack fruit?!? According to the chart it's bigger than a watermellon? Wowza

LOL! The jackfruit cracked me up! For the last few weeks I was pregnant with DD she was a watermelon, and then they revamped the fruit sizes and added the jackfruit and I was like - Huh?

At least that's how I've been looking at it.
That's why there's a banana because its comparing length.....

I think we all understand that - but, it is still bizarre. Also they say "the size of" not "the length of your baby is comparable to that of a _____".
It's all quite silly really.
