XP- evening routine

What do you ladies do as an evening routine?  What time do you feed your babies, and then do you keep them up for a bit?  Our LO was going to bed around 10, waking up 130/2 and 530/6.  Now it is more like 1230/1 and 4/430, any advice for getting him to sleep longer and later?  He is a good napper during the day....but maybe sleeping too much in the evening?  He is 7 weeks old and 10lbs 5 oz.

Re: XP- evening routine

  • Hey!

My husband does bedtime (he is amazing)! I pump around 10:15 or 10:30 so DH can feed him about 4oz around 10:45 (I usually breastfeed but he needs to get used to a bottle and my husband likes to feed him at least once a day).

DH will first feed him about 2 oz and will burp him and change his diaper (sometimes changes him into PJs). Then he will swaddle him in a halo swaddle. He then finishes that bottle with him when rocking in the chair (burping him every 1/2 oz). He puts DS down half asleep (I have yet to master that skill, lol) and DH will stay up on the couch watching tv for 45 minutes to run in and take care with any fussing. Sometimes DS will take a pacifier and sometimes he won't. Xavier will usually sleep until 6:30 or 7:30 am.

He will be 7 weeks on Monday.

  • DS goes to bed at 730, has since he was probably about 5-6 weeks old (he's 12 weeks tomorrow).  When we first started his routine, he'd get up probably 10/11, 3-4, sometimes 5/6, and then up for the day between 730 and 8.  Now he gets up 1/2 and sometimes 5/6.

For our bedtime routine we play music while we feed him, change his diaper, and then put him in bed drowsy, but not asleep.

It takes a little while for them to sleep longer at night.  You can try feeding him more during the day so he won't need as many night feedings, but it's no guarantee.  We have no problems with DS even napping right until bedtime and then we wake him up, do his routine, and let him sleep.

Do you do a dream feed?  It could really help.

  • She was sleeping consistently 10/11 to 6/7 since around 4 weeks. In the past few days she has switched her start time to 8 pm and then is back up around 4. She goes back down until 7 or 8. Not as convenient for me, but I know is good for her! I haven't really tried to switch any of her sleeping times. Most of what I've read says to follow their cues at least until 12 weeks before trying to move times. Plus, I can't really complain about the amount of sleep so I haven't really tried. We are just starting a bed time routine this week as she is more consistent. It is that I nurse here and hand her to dad who will read a book, swaddle, and lay her in bed.
