Going Home Outfit

Ok, so I had it in my head (and I probably read this somewhere) that a baby gown is one of the best going home outfits for LO. From what I remember reading/hearing is that it is because the gowns don't rub the umbilical cord. Since we are team green, I was thinking I wanted a boy gown and a girl gown, but I am just not seeing anything I like. So I am looking for some opinions from all of you about good suggestions for a going home outfit! So what going home outfits have you packed or looked at? STM do you have any recommendations?

Sleep and play (packing newborn and 3 month size), hat, and blanket to cover her with once she's in the car seat.

Carter's has some freaking adorable sleep and plays with animals on the butt.

I agree with the PP. Gowns are not a good going hom outfit because of the car seat. I'd just recommend a sleepers or something simple or a kimono shirt with pants.

The gowns I have seen are pretty basic, nothing super loud or cutesy. Also you may want some little leggings or something to wear under the gown for in the car seat. I got a kimono style top with matching footed leggings, hat, and mittens from Carters. The kimono style tops are good for the umbilical cord too. Apparently you just want to avoid tight onsies.

We are bringing our baby girl home in a gown! We'll just put pants on her for the car ride home to protect her legs from the car seat. We found ours on Etsy!

We are taking LO home in something similar. We are also bringing a blanket for the carseat. We also have a sleeper on standby incase she's too big for the NB size that we currently have.

I did a gown outfit for DD as a going home outfit. It really wasn't that big of a deal. I packed little newborn pants that I put on her before I put her in the car seat.

For DS I bought this outfit for him. It is a one piece. You could probably go with a pants and shirt outfit if you want as well- to protect the belly button. DD was a Feb baby so she wore onsies under everything during the winter. Depending on where you live that might also be the case. If you use onsies try to use white ones because I remember the little stump would bleed or secret stuff and it would get on the onsies. It was nice to see the stains. They may get lost on a patterned onsie.

This. We were team green with #1 and just got an outfit with duckies on it.

Thank you everyone! I guess this is where I am going to have to tell DH he was right. He kept telling me the gown wouldn't be a good fit with the carseat! I should have listened! Love all the suggestions and links to the different outfits. They make me so excited!

To echo what the pp said, I personally wouldn't choose a gown because it gets bunched up around their legs with the car seat buckle. This is the outfit we chose for our LO's trip home from the birth center (as a side note, can I just say how ridiculously long it took me to find a plain white outfit???!!!).

This may be a silly question but as a FTM I really dont know.....

Will the hospital take the pics of the LO on the day we are going home?

So he will be wearing the "going home outfit" for the pics?
