Humidifer vs Vaporizer

Which do we actually need?  I've read that humidifiers are better b/c they use cold mist, but that they can grow mold and need costly filters.  Growing up, DH and I both had vaporizers and obviously had no problems.

Re: Humidifer vs Vaporizer

  • A Vaporizer boils the water which is not safe to have around kids/pets if it were to get knocked over.

There are warm mist and cool mist humidifiers. Warm mist are the ones at risk of bacteria and mold because they are, well, warm.  Cool mist could have that same problem but not as often. We have a Vick's brand cool mist humidifier that does not have a filter so you don't have to worry about changing or cleaning one.  It works well.

This is usually something you only need to use in dry, winter months when LO has a cold or congestion (unless you are in a really dry climate).
