What to Expect at first MFM appt?

I am 14w and my first MFM appt is in two weeks.  What should I expect in terms of a normal first appt there?  I should have asked the OB, but my pregnancy brain is really bad! I forget to ask the right questions.  Of course I am seeing the MFM for the twins and my age (39).  No other complications or issues. I plan to call the MFM to find out how long to expect the appt to be since DH might come, but would love any feedback on what yours was like.

I've already done the Mat21 (clear and at least one boy!) and of course have had several sonos (especially since I was with an RE first).

Re: What to Expect at first MFM appt?

  • For the most part, my visits to MFM have just been for ultrasounds so I don't even see the dr there. But, I did decide to go with an amnio due to my age and DH and I did meet wtih the peri before that. For me it was basically a genetic counseling session and questionaire, so very good that DH was with me.

  • During my first appointment, we had a lengthy u/s and then spent about an hour with the MFM talking about a specific balance of vitamins that he wanted me to have and some things to look out for, and going through the digital u/s pictures. That was at 22 weeks, though.

  • From 16 to 32 weeks, I went every 2 to 3 weeks. I had a growth scan, Doppler flow, MVP and transvaginal ultrasound cervical length check at every appointment. After 32 weeks, I went once or twice a week for NSTs, BPPs, and MVP checks. After my ultrasound, I met with the MFM for a few minutes to review the results and discuss the recommendations for my OB. My OB was the primary doc, so my MFM was more of a consult in nature.
