Recurrent yeast, anyone else?

After DS was born, I had recurrent yeast every 4 months- always right one schedule! Since he turned a year,  it has been every.single.month. I suspected it was my IUD, since that was the only different thing and I got it out a little less than a week ago. Well, it feels like I'm getting another  and I am MAD.

I am able to get diflucan oretty easily and HATE using OTC creams such as Monistat. Has anyone else had a similar problem? How did you get rid of the problem? I am more than a little annoyed at this point, especially after having my IUD (what I thought the problem was) removed and having one again already...

Anyone?  Anyone? Bueller? :)

Re: Recurrent yeast, anyone else?

  • Have you tried taking probiotics? When I was pregnant with DD1 I had recurring yeast throughout my pregnancy. My MW suggested taking probiotics, and I haven't had any problems since I started doing that. I buy them in the refrigerator section of the natural foods part of the grocery store I go to. It's just a pill that you take once a day. I also give my daughter probiotics (it's a powder you mix with milk or applesauce) when she's on antibiotics because she kept getting yeast rashes due to the antibiotics. She hasn't had a yeast rash since I started doing this.

  • Yeh, my doc is a family friend so I was officially diagnosed once- I am also an RN, so he's trusted my own diagnosis since and I get a fluconazole 150 mg tab once. I need to ask for some additional therapy, but don't think he'd do that unless I go back in (darn!). I do make DH treat himself even though he has no symptoms with the male/skin treatment equivalent of miconazole.

I am going to try some probiotics soon. I am not really an "alternative therapies" kind of oerson, but I am at the end of my miserable rope with this and plan to try yogurt, boric tablets and probiotics all of which are possible "treatments." Hopefully something works!

  • I have never done this, but a few of my friends swear by the garlic clove thing: https://www.midwiferytoday.com/articles/garlic.asp. Maybe worth a try?

I'm also not an "alternative therapies" kind of person, but I also was desperate and the probiotics really seemed to help me.

Thanks everyone! I got probiotics today and may try the garlic thing tonight. Hopefully this will nip it in the bud...

  • I had recurrent yeast postpartum and not sure what finally made it go away except my OB did recommend I start taking a probiotic with the diflucan.

Also she had me come in a couple times to be sure it wasn't bacterial vaginosis as they can have similar symptoms, have your rules that out?

  • With all the "experts" in this thread...  What does one use for a yeast rash???  After having DS I have a bunch of little crops of it (shoulder, leg, foot..) and haven't a clue where they came from...  Doc told me to just use an antifungal, but that was it, not which one which apparently there are many different versions of...

  • Miconazole is OTC here! Nystatin isn't. I believe clotrimazole is, too.
