covered in BF classes?

Looks like many of us have utilized side laying nursing ... for those of you who took a BF class, did they ever mention it? Or bring up the fact that there are more than 3 positions? Mine only covered cradle, cross cradle and football holds. Just curious....

  • She mentioned it very quickly. I still haven't tried it yet. I think it makes hubs nervous

  • I took the "class" they offered in the postpartum unit after I had lo and they only went over the basic holds.  It wasn't until I saw a lc that I was told about the side-lay and laid-back positions.
  • They didn't in ours, but the lactation consultant who helped when we were having problems did.

Am wondering if it is for this reason
.. seems to require LO to have some head control and possibly for mom to be less "just gave birth exhausted"...

  • It was covered but they left out our favorite - biological/laid back nursing position.  Thankfully, I had a LC come visit and she recommended the position and it was a lifesaver to get through the first couple of weeks!

  • I don't think they mentioned it, but they might have. I don't even think I read or learned about it. It seemed to come so naturally when I was exhausted after giving birth and not wanting to sit up in the hospital bed anymore for the pain! Now that's the only way I do it at night, but it's convenient when you cosleep, too.

  • Ours mentioned it and told us it probably wasn't what we would start off with and that it would take some time to develop the skill to do it.......... or like PP said maybe it was because LO needs a bit of head control to do it.

I've only tried it once and got my bed soaked, along with my shirt and LO :) Obviously I am not skilled enough yet.

  • I couldn't side lay with Mili until about 3 weeks old. She needed better head control and he head needed to get bigger I think. Its all we do at night and has been a lifesaver on sleep.
