Trying to Get Pregnant

metformin

If you're taking it - what dosage are you on?

I started Met last year at 500mg and my cycles were still wonky. In October I upped to 750mg and my cycles have been around 50-60 days since then. Is it worth asking my doctor to increase the dosage from there?

I'm on the extended release.

I am not seeing an RE yet but I do have an appt request. I suppose I could wait until that appointment to discuss this.

  • I take 1000mg ER/daily. Ive only been off the pill for 2 months and have gotten my period in 30+ days.

  • I'm supposed to be taking 1,500 mg., but I couldn't take the side effects, so I'm doing 1,000 mg.  It hasn't done anything to my cycle length (my cycles were actually very "normal" before Metformin).

  • I am on 500 mg once a day.  It has regulated my cycle pretty well.  Do you know when your Appt is with your RE?  If its going to be a few months, I would mention it to the doctor.

Stacy- what CDs do you normally ovulate? Your cycle is similar to mine. The first month I monitored I got a "peak" on days 9-10. This month I have had
high" forever and still no Peak and i'm on day 21..

I have no idea when my appt is going to be. I have a request sent but no response yet. I feel like it could be awhile.

  • I'm supposed to be on 1500mg but the side effects were killing me. we backed it down to 1000mg, but I'm working towards getting back to 1500. the extended release kind is much easier to take in my opinion.

eta: I have been on it for a little over 3 months and unfortunately so far have not seen any change in my cycles. I still have to use provera as a jump starter. I really hoped that after enduring all those side effects, the least it could do was regulate me. boo.
trying for #1 since May 2012... we're adopting! bringing home baby boy in january 2015!

    Texas forever.
  • I started 1500mg a day (500mg, 3x/day) last March.  My cycles were irregular for 6 months.  However, I got really sick in late November and the dr okayed stopping the met while I was sick since I didn't really need nausea-inducing meds when I already couldn't keep food down!

I haven't gone back on the met and my cycles have become progressively more "normal" since.  I have an appt to meet with a new dr in April.

You can check out my charts, the link to my charts are in my siggy. Typically I ovulate anywhere from CD 13 to CD 21, with a couple of exceptions.

    ETA: Change wording.

  • I take 1000mg ER daily. I also prescribe it for my job, and the max dose is 2000mg daily (4 500mg ER tabs). I will tell you the majority of people can't take that much due to the awful GI side effects. We usually have them taper up the dose, start with 500mg/day until they are used to it, then up it to 1000mg/day. If they are not having too many side effects, they go up to 1500mg/day. I will tell you the majority of my patients take 1000mg/day though, most can't tolerate more than that.

  • I'm on 1500mg daily.  I started with 500mg a day for the first ten days, then 1000mg for the next ten days and worked up to 1500mg.  The side effects were pretty awful while my body was adjusting, but I stuck with it, and now it seems ok.  It also helps me stay away from fatty/junk foods, because that's when I felt the most sick.
