We have two dogs - a Pembroke Corgi named Pongo and a Mini Dauschund named Chase! We always throught our Corgi would be the protective dog of our future children and would sleep by their bed and be cautious if anyone came around them. We also always thought we'd have to be careful with our Doxie and really work at training him to be "calm" around the baby. He's a very friendly dog, always seemed to like kids, but will probably always act like a puppy with high energy and excitement!
Anyway, so when we got home from the hospital with Parker, it was the complete opposite! Our Doxie was so worried about him every time he cried and so curious about every inch of him that it took him a week to go back to normal eating habits! He got up with us every night when he cried, checked on him and on us and then would curl up next to me and LO on the rocker and go back to sleep! Any time someone new came to the house to see/hold DS our doxie would sit right next to them and just watch them to be sure DS was safe! Now at almost 8 months, they are in seperable! Parker worms up next to him while he's chewing on a bone and plays tug of war with him. Chase tries to bring his ball to him for DS to throw it and they love giving each other kisses! It's so cute to watch.
Our corgi is good with him too, just doesn't really care about him until he has a puff! He'll growl if Parker worms over to him while he's chewing a bone but gets up and takes the bone elsewhere. He'll come up and give him a kiss and then look at us like, "There I like him, ok?" It's just weird how they took on opposite roles from what we expected!
Here are some pictures!!
