Just wondering if anyone was thought to have endometriosis or has it. ? My dr says that she sees a little on the u/s that may be a sign of it, but unless she did a laparoscopy? Is that what it's called? That she wouldn't know and it's invasive. So she said move to ivf. Ivf scares me and not covered. So has anyone had the surgery or gotten pregnant with IUI or naturally with having endometriosis? I just can't imagine why this is not working. We've tried 5 iui's so frustrating. We already had one child through iui. 2nd try. Cant imagine why thus time its not working! Tia!
Re: Anyone have/had endometriosis?
I don't think the endo was the main cause of my IF, likely it was my PCOS.
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2
After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
I have/had stage 4 Endo. I have had 2 laparoscopies. The first one was in April, 2010 then went on Lupron for 6 months only to have it come back shortly after the Lupron wore off. I switched to a new RE, had another Lap in August of 2011, due to severe pain from the Endo that I could not live my daily life with out prescription pain meds. I also had a huge cyst that was not shrinking. In the end, my new RE could not tell where my left ovary was, the cyst or my tube, so he ended up removing it all. At first, I was very sad it had to go but in the end, the pain ended up going away. I had a MRI in October to check my healing and RE saw I had bicornate uterus and wanted to fix that asap. In December 2011, I had my uterus fixed. We opted to try on our own for a few months before moving on to fertility meds. It had been about 3 months and nothing. We decided to have a consultation about going on Femara, so we scheduled it for the next month to start. I ended up calling him the next month (found out May 12) crying saying we are Pregnant! ( I used opk's) So, I want to say yes it is possible to get pregnant with Stage 4 Endo, on your own. I would highly suggest a lap.
BTW- We had our little man on Jan 13, 2013
He is our miracle baby. I need to write up a post about his birth story and if I had not been through enough, his birth story is not how I had wanted it to go.
::raises hand::
I have endo too and it's awful. I will be having my 3rd lap next month to try to clean things up before starting treatments again. With that said, I have gotten pregnant after both of my surgeries - one from an IUI and some clomid the cycle following my surgery and one surprise right after my second lap.
I agree with Drangonfly in that if you have already done 5 IUI's, sadly I think your RE is right in suggesting you move onto IVF. I understand that being out of pocket is tough ... maybe you could have the lap done and do IUI again for a cycle or two before moving on to see if that would maybe help?
Also, your RE is right about the lap as well. It is the only way to really diagnose whether or not you have endo. If you do decide to do the surgery, it's really not all that bad. You will start to feel better after a few days and by a week out you'll be pretty much back to your normal self.
Good luck.
PPs all gave good advice. I have endo and IVF was urged right from the get go but I was a PITA and just had to waste 3k on an IUI. My first IVF worked for me.
The only true way to tell is with a lap and it sucked for me - the gas they blow you up with was painful with a capital P!

I have stage 4 . As you can see from my siggy below I have had a lap, D+E, and 2 rounds of depo lupron because of it. I am also missing a large portion of my bowls that had to be removed because of it (thankfully, everything in that regards still works normally though). I was also put on continuos hormones for about 4 years before trying for my first LO to prevent a period all together. Coming off meds I didn't ovulate on my own (and didint' even ovulate consistantly with IF meds). Injectable IUI (antagonist) with lovenox ended up workgin for me. My RE believes that endo can often cause immunity type issues and clotting so the lovenox was added in for that reason. It was our 6th cycle with the RE but only 3rd IUI.
After having my daughter I BF until she was over a year old and my PP cycle didn't' return until she was 15 months. My cycle returned fairly normally and we ended up with a BFP this month with no treatment (although I am back on lovenox and crinone now for support reasons.) I guess I am proof that both with iui and without medical intervention are possible.
Good luck to you! Have they tried a variety of approaches to stimulate you for IUI ?
