Genetic Testing

I had bloodwork drawn for genetic testing last week and I am a carrier for SMA, which is a muscular disorder. They said its only an issue if my husband is also a carrier so he is going for bloodwork tomorrow. Hoping he is not a carrier so we don't need to be concerned about this! Anyone else have genetic testing done?

We were tested for CF, I was carrier husband was not. I wasn't carrier for others so he only had to be tested for the one thing.

I have had a lot of genetic testing done because of my losses. Thankfully, I am not a carrier for anything that we tested for, so DH only had to be tested for a specific mutation where it doesn't matter whether I have it or not.

Yes, we were screened for CF, Fragile X and SMA while pregnant with DS. I'm not a carrier so DH did not need to be tested.

We had all kinds of testing. A lot was recurrent loss testing, some was the Jewish blood panel.

We tested negative for everything.

We did the testing prior to doing IVF. We are both clear.

I had the screening for CF and found out that I am a carrier. My dh got bloodwork done to see if he is a carrier, waiting on the results.

I was tested for SMA in my last pregnancy because I had a cousin die at three months from it. Luckily I wasn't a carrier so my hubby didn't need to get tested. Even if he would have been tested, he would have only had a 1 in 50 chance of being a carrier and if you are both carriers, you only have a 25 percent chance of the child being affected. Point being, it's still very unlikely for you to have a problem because of it. T and P that everything checks out fine

My husband and I had a genetic test for over 200 things. We came back negative for everything. It was a relief for sure.

We had genetic testing prior to becoming pregnant due to a family history of a severe genetic disorder.

I had the Jewish panel done before our wedding as part of our premarital counseling. Thankfully I'm not a carrier for anything I've been tested for so far. I'm having blood drawn this Saturday for a couple more things that the Jewish panel didn't include.

I had the Jewish genetic screening done during my last pregnancy. I don't think I'll do it again because there probably haven't been a ton of new discoveries of things to test for. I also had it done before we got married, on the rec of our Rabbi, but there were some advancements in between then and our first baby so I did it again. I'm not a carrier for anything.

We had some done prior to getting married. (I can't remember how we found out [I suspect military crap, but I could be wrong], but DH is a carrier for CF)

So we know we're good.

I had the prenatal panel where they test for CF and the mat21 test for chromosomal abnormalities.
I hope your husband's test comes back negative so you don't have to stress.

I have 2 neices and a nephew that have/had SMA. My BIL had SMA and my sister is a carrier. They are amazing parents and I would be happy to get you in touch with them in you would like. Monica (my sister) is a huge SMA advocate and has been to lots of SMA conferences. Really the best thing you can do is inform yourself.
