Gender neutral nursery

If you are team green, have any of you thought about how you will decorate the nursery?  We are not finding out for our second, so I am starting to think of ideas for a gender neutral theme.  Anyone have any plans yet?

Re: Gender neutral nursery

  • I chose BRU snickerdoodle nursery set. I think it is lovely and gender neutral enough that it would go with either boy or girl. Most of my home is done in light and dark browns so it matches great.

  • We did gender neutral for DD, I did an alphabet theme and it is all primary colors. Her walls are bright green and I found alphabet bedding from Target. I knew that was something I would not want to spend money on again for our next child so, neutral was best for us. Plus we knew what we were having, but no one else knew so we could not do the room in anything gender specific. I really love her room still. I added some pink things and cute things I found along the way once she was born. But we will be using the same things for this baby.

  • I'm thinking of a rainforest mural on the walls with dark wood furniture. We'll see if hubs goes for it.

  • We're not team green but I've always loved really neutral soft nurseries.  If we were team green I'd probably do a Velveteen Rabbit/Classic Peter Cottontail themed nursery.  I think classic storybook characters can go either way and the colors are all very neutral.

  • I think it's a good idea to do little kid rooms gender-neutral no matter what, especially if you're planning on having more kids soon. We did DD's room in Monsters, Inc. colors (blue walls, bubble spotted curtains in greens and blues, some purple accents, that funky Dr. Seuss-ish furniture from IKEA) just because I am too lazy to repaint after just 2 years!

    That sounds lovely!

No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you are the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.

  • We are doing grey and white with teal accents.  Then after baby is born we will add touches of red if its a boy, and light purple if its a girl.  We are going to incorporate chevron and polka dots.  I designed my bedding on babybedding.com, but my mom is going to just buy the fabric and make it herself for less than half the price!

This is what we are leaning to also. We picked out paint colors from Benjamin Moore; one (pale almond-y tan) as the primary color for the main walls and one (pale yellow) as an accent color on the smaller walls. The furniture will be a mix of white and a blue-green.

  • We're team green and we are doing finding Nemo. I'm super excited!

  • Haven't decided for this one yet, but for DD we did a bird/nature theme. The walls were already a warm brown in the nursery and I painted a dresser and some frames bright turquoise. I still love it and it could easily work for both sexes. Now I feel stuck for this one.

ETA: stuck for this one because we are moving and I can't even really worry about this until June.

This is what I'm doing too! Except I plan to add touches of fuschia if it's a girl, and navy if its a boy. The room is already teal (the previous owners had it this colour and we hadn't touched it yet) so I figure I will leave 2 walls teal, and paint two grey. Less work painting too! I already ordered the bedding, it's just grey and white diamonds.

Very excited about it, classy, simple, and very neutral to use again for baby #2!

This is pretty much exactly what we're doing too!  Except we painted the walls a medium gray (I didn't like the pale grey) and are using a dark/rich teal.  Then plum for a girl or navy for a boy.  White furniture.  How funny!

  • i'm liking everyone's ideas.  We're team green this time around but we were not for DS so we have light blue and chocolate bedding/curtains.  the rest of the room is pretty plain though, light grey walls with a white tree that my mom painted on.  We're not going to decorate until after baby is born, if its another boy we will just reuse DS's things.  I figure we have time since we're planning on having baby in a bassinet in our room for a few months for ease with nursing, etc.

  • We are team green also :) We did Lambs and Ivy Enchanted Forest. Painted all walls green, except the wall that crib will be on that wall will be tan. Ordered a tree mural with animals to go on that wall. Good luck :)
  • My husband is a teacher, and he really wanted the room decor to be smart (and not just cute!). We did the alphabet. What better way for a baby to learn the alphabet than to make it part of their lives from the beginning?
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • We are team green too. With the first, we did a celestial theme (sun, moon, stars). Kept the bedding a neutral, cream/yellow color. With this one we're doing teddy bears, with two tones of brown on the walls, maybe a border. Using the same bedding once we get DS into a big boy bed! :)

  • We were Team Green with DS and we'll be using all of the same nursery stuff for this baby. Our walls are a light tan and we have this Pottery Barn Kids ABC bedding from a few years back https://www.potterybarnkids.com/pkimgs/rk/images/dp/wcm/201026/0016/img23m.jpg I also found some retrolooking animalcounting prints that I framed and hung on the wall.

  • I am not team green, but I think my color choices/theme are gender neutral.  We are going with yellow, grey and white and we have black furniture already from DD.
  • I did my nursery in gray for my last baby.  I wasn't team green, but it easily works for that.  I added purple and lavender accents, and did black and white bedding in damask, stripes and chevron.  I put some cute artwork up of vintage Mademoiselle magazine covers and some prints of Paris.

If I were to have a boys this time I would just change the accent pieces and leave the walls and bedding the same.  I would accent with several primary colors.

Gray and yellow is really beautiful and gender neutral.

We are doing this too! We had an excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit read at our wedding. I want to put the same excerpt on the wall above the crib. I just found a stuffed Velveteen Rabbit at Kohls over the weekend for $5!

  • We plan to find out, but I wanted the nursery to remain relatively neutral, as I don't plan to buy bedding, decor, etc. again for potential kid #2.

We're planning a sort of woodland theme.  Cute forest animals like deer, owls, etc.  Sky blue walls with a tree painted behind the crib, a birdhouse nightlight, and bedding in blues and greens and browns.  If we find out it's a girl, we may lean more toward some floral touches with decor items, if it's a boy, maybe more "woodsy".  Either way, largely neutral, just a few touches here and there.

I already had a rocker/recliner that I'll use that has a modern brown/green/blue leaf pattern on it, so we used that as inspiration.

We are doing grey and teal as well with white furniture and chevron sheets and dotted fabrics. If it is a girl I will add some pink.

Must be a trend. Or an August mom thing

  • We planned on being team green for years. But when we finally got pregnant and far enough along to know we caved so fast.

That being said, I'd already painted the nursery before my IVF cycle (not out of optimism but more out of I'm never going to be able to do simple things like this and I refuse to never get to experience the joy of decorating a nursery...crazy if you will). And I bought gender neutral bedding.

Sooo that being said, even though we are no longer team green our nursery will still be gender neutral for the most part.

I went with this for the bedding and wall color:

And I painted this mural (well my own version of it) on the wall:

  • With my first we did a gender neutral nursery that is orange (not too bright but not pastel either) and off white with animals. We will be moving during this pregnancy so I want to re-use the animal stuff since I already have it but have no idea what wall color I'll do. Lots of great suggestions here.
