Pack N Play or Co Sleeper?

Our living space is somewhat small and someone purchased us the pack n play with twin bassinets, my DH read some not so great reviews.  If you didn't have a crib yet what did your babies sleep in for the first few months? Do you recommend pack n play over co sleeper or something else? I just want whatever is safest!

Re: Pack N Play or Co Sleeper?

  • We are planning on using the pack and play until they get too big for it then will transition them into their own room in the crib. When we had our singletons we didnt have a huge issue co-sleeping but with twins I dont want to risk it.

  • Honestly, we used bouncy seats the first 3 months until we transitioned them to cribs. A lot of people use rock N plays, which are the same basic idea, just elevated. I haven't heard of anyone liking the twin bassinet pnp, and we had a cosleeper but it just didn't work well for twins for us. I would vote rnp, based on everything I have heard!

  • We borrowed a co-sleeper (thankfully we didn't buy it) and they slept in it twice.  They sleep amazingly in the rock'n'plays; they're still in them at night, although we're in the process of moving to the crib. We have a PnP, but it's more of a "holding cell" while we're getting bottles ready, feeding the other one, etc.

  • We're planning on using the regular PNP for the first couple weeks, then we'll be moving them into the crib.
  • We use RnPs, PnPs, bouncer or swing for naptime. I bedshare at night.

Ditto this.  We had a co-sleeper that we used all of maybe two nights.  They didn't really sleep well in it plus it's much more of a pain in the a$$ to put up/take down than a PnP.  I was super excited about using it, but then reality sets in. :-)  For this LO, I was debating between PnP and RnP and I'm going to go with the RnP.  For one, I know how much better my DDs did in the bouncers (pre-RnP days) plus the PnP would take up all the space on my side of the bed.

  • By bassinet do you mean an Arms Reach?  We just got an arms reach co-sleeper from someone on Craigslist (original size, not the "mini") and plan to put both twins in it next to our bed the first few months before moving them to their two cribs in another room when they are big enough to push up and roll/move around and bother each other.  Then we will convert the arms reach to a pack and play.

If that doesn't work out we will just go to cribs, but really want this to work out for easier middle of night feedings in our room, at least that was a recom from another MoM.

On Craigslist it was only $60 which is much less than full retail ~$200, and since it converts to a basic pnp figured that was good value.
