How long?

How long do you let your LO stay in the crib after naps or in the morning after they wake up. This is of course if they don't cry or whine to get out.... How long do you let them laugh/play/ have quiet time I their crib?

Re: How long?

  • In the morning, I let her go until the happy chatter turns to whining - usually 5-10 minutes.  She almost always wakes up crying from her naps so I just go get her as soon as she wakes up.

  • In the am till 6am or 6:15 if I'm lazy -- she just babbles away.  After naps if it has been a solid 2 hrs or more I just get her up -- if it has been less than 90 mins I leave her for 90 mins.

ETA: I'd leave her longer but her room is pretty dark so even if she had toys/books she can't see them.  She does spend the time practicing words.

  • As long as she's happy.  I need the time when I first get up to get myself ready before I get her ready, so I try and stretch as much time as I can.  From naps, not as much, but DD is a waking-up-slowly kind of girl (just like her mom and dad), so I always give her a little time to get herself together.  She doesn't like it when I have to wake her up and she has to get out of bed and dressed right away.

Also, confession:  On days when DH is bringing her to the babysitter's, if she is up and wanting to get out of bed, I get her up and dressed and let her play in her room for as long as I can, but then a lot of days, when I have to leave for work, she waits in her crib with a bunch of toys for DH to get out of the shower.  She's usually bummed that I have to put her in there and leave, but usually just for a minute or two before she just happily plays with her toys and waits for DH.  If she's still sleeping, I just leave and let her sleep in.

  • Until it turns to fussing.  Mornings it's not that long, he wants out.  But he's pretty lazy after naps.  He likes to just lay there and talk it out for a while.  He's in there a good 10-15 minutes.  If I get him up from a nap before he's ready he's a bit of a bear so I let him do his thing!

  • In the mornings, probably about 10 minutes. It depends on how tired I am. If I can't get out of bed yet and she is fine playing in there, then I let her. After naps, I get her as soon as she wakes up. I am usually missing her by then :)

  • DS will usually babble for about 10 minutes before I go in and get him. I try to get him before he gets fussy. If he's up super early, sometimes he'll go back to sleep for a little while if I leave him... which means more sleep for me! :)

  • A cries when he wakes up so he isn't willing to stay in the crib at all. I have tried giving him books in there for his nap but he doesn't care. Maybe someday he will play for a few minutes in his crib.

  • In the morning, I'll leave him in there as long as he's happy. That can be up to a half hour. Usually he wakes up wanting to get out though. For naps, it depends on if he's slept for a while or not. If he has, I'll go in when I hear him wake up. If it hasn't been much time, I'll leave him in there for up to an hour if he's happy. I find the down time, whether he sleeps or not, is helpful.

  • I read that if they're waking up crying at this age, still, they're not getting enough sleep. On the rare occassion that he wakes up crying, I leave him in there and he almost always falls back to sleep!

If he's in there happy in the morning, we leave him until he calls us. Even then, sometimes we send in the bigs to entertain him for 15 more minutes. They read to him or throw toys in his bed or do tricks to make him laugh. Sometimes they wake us up bc they're having some kind of comedy show in there and they're laughing so loud. This is one of my rewards, I think, for having so many kids Big Smile I love it.

After naps, I usually leave him in there until he calls me, but it's not very long. Many days/week I have to wake him to go pick up the kids from school. That's sad because sometimes he's still totally out cold.

This.  C doesn't want to be in his crib if he isn't sleeping.

Yes! Hahaha! I ask this because Madison would stay in there forever if I let her. She won't cry for me. She will lay there and talk to herself or play in there forever. I think she really loves sleeping and her crib/room! Weird baby :)

    This is Bo too!

We have to check some mornings to make sure he really is sleeping and not just hanging out in his crib! I just put a lavender vanilla wall turtle from B&B in his room.. it smells so good, his heater is on a temp regulator so when it falls below 75 it kicks on, he has it made in there!

But to answer the question... I go get him IF he is fussing usually he wakes up so late and we need to get our bootys out the door to make our 10:30 activities.
