Formula recommendations?

OK - this is my last post tonight - promise!

I have another question.

Since DD is not interested in solid foods yet, AND we may be moving more slowly on the solid food front due to a possible adverse food reaction AND she needs more sustenance now that she is crawling and being more active AND my milk supply is not sufficient for her anymore (she went from eating 12 oz at day care to 18oz!!!!)....

I think I need to supplement her with formula to make sure she gets enough nutrition until she gets some safe solid foods under her belt.

What do formula feeding moms recommend?  I am still going to be giving her mostly pumped milk so I'm not too concerned about price right now.

Thanks!

Re: Formula recommendations?

  • My daughter has been on formula since the begining and we use similac advance. I have heard that Gerber Goodstart tastes a lil sweeter and therefore a little more close tasting to breast milk. But if your Lo hasn't been on formula thus far it might be hard for her to drink formula. You might have to mix half and half, breast milk and formula for a while for her body to adjust to it and foe her to accept the taste difference

  • We use Target brand, their Similac equivalent. My son liked it better than the name brands, and it's way cheaper. We've had no problems or complaints.

  • DD has/had food allergies to what appeared to be several things.  We never did figure out spefically what it was/is. I supplement with Similac Alimentum.  Pricey but it causes her zero issues.

I'm sure you are making an informed decision but I don't see why you are not giving solids.  If she has allergies this is a good way to figure out what she does and doesn't tolerate.  Anyway, maybe I'll see your posts further down which will explain.

    Good luck!

  • We use Similac Sensitive.  He was very gassy in the begininng.  My BFF swears by Gerber GoodStart as her 3rd child has many stomach issues and they went from formula to formula for awhile.

  • We went through a number of formulas, including the Similac Sensitive and the only thing that works for us in Gerber Good Start Soothe.  It uses only whey protein and has probiotics (which are different than the prebiotics included in most formula) and we also supplemented with a probiotic designed for babies because my milk never fully came in and was dried up by six weeks.  It was our last resort before Alimentum and I'm grateful it worked because our baby is a piglet and our formula bill now is bad enough, I can't imagine if we had to use Alimentum.
  • We use Earth's Best.  Its a little pricey but if you have Amazon mom you can get it for $5 less than in stores and subscribe and save addtional.

  • My LO is also on Gerber GoodStart (we use the Gentle). I was only able to breast feed to 4 months due to low supply issues and other medical conditions that made it even worse. I really looked up each of the brands and looked at the list of ingredients in them... sadly and I don't know why so many people don't know this, most formulas top or second top ingredient is corn syrup which is SUGAR. Not really what I want my baby consuming. Some of the Enfamil's don't have it but Enfamil did not sit well with my LO's tummy so we switched to Gerber GoodStart which also doesn't have it and we love it. I also looked up reviews for the different formulas we were considering and Gerber had the best reviews with really no negative reviews. Like I said, we love it.
