LO hates bath time

So just this week M HATES bath time. As soon as I put her in the water she screams, and not like a little unhappy pouty cry, a monster terrified wail.  She never had a problem with baths until this week. Finally just decided we would take one together, and she seemed to think that was ok.

Anyone else hate baths lately? Really hope this is just a weird phase.

Re: LO hates bath time

  • Not yet, but changes are always happening! Haha... Anyways, he gets angry if I take too long though. A bath together sounds so cute! Is it hard to do though? So slippery? I have the PUJ tub and it makes sink baths so easy.

  • Little different, but P used to love baths and love after bath time. Now, as soon as I remove him from the water he freaks the fluck out. Like wailing, sounds like someone is beating him. Our neighbors are probably about to cl CPS. I don't understand why!

  • A has hated his baths from the start. He did reasonably well in the shower with me holding him, but any kind of bath he is firmly against it. They'll change about these things over time though.

  • It wasn't as hard as I thought it might be. She gets a little slippery but not too bad. The worst part was getting out because I'm trying to make sure LO is warm and dry and I was all wet and freezing. Ha ha.

  • Have you tried soaking a washcloth in the tub and draping it over her? CJ used to scream bloody murder till my mom told me to try it, I just wet a second cloth and use it to cover the parts I'm not washing. Now he loves loves the bath!

  • My LO absolutely hated bath time in the beginning.  I started wrapping him in a thin towel and holding him close as I put him in the water and that seems to have solved the problem.  I keep him wrapped in the towel during the bath and I get it wet so he is warm all over.  I lift it to wash him, but it seems like he much prefers it this way.
  • Awww, bath time together sounds kind of cute. I hope this is a quick phase for your LO, though!

R screams getting out... but really? I wanna cry like that , too, when I get out of a nice warm bath.

  • We've started showering B about 3X a week. He LOVES it. Most of the time he will fall asleep on my shoulder.

The only tricky part is getting out so DH and I tag team. He wraps him in a warm towel while I finish up washing my hair and stuff.

  • K loves them now. Not in the beginning. But then I used that washcloth trick on the belly like credcat (i believe) suggested, and he can't get enough of bath time.

This is how we get through bathtime - and LO loves it now. Hated it at the beginning but loves it now. We also prep the water a little warmer than our hospital recommended (they recommended around 98F. I'd say we prep it at 100-101). I do her face outside of the tub first. Tub time lasts maybe 10 minutes.

  • I just thought if two things that may or may not help.

We steam up the bathroom a little before putting him in the tub. I think he's more comfortable with the warmer air temp.

We also save washing his hair until the end. You lose a lot of body heat through your head so I try to wait as long as possible before putting water on it. I'm not sure if you do this too, but if not it might be worth a try.

  • I, too, do the credcat wash cloth trick. No matter what we did, H hated the bath and screamed pretty much the whole time...until this week. I can't say that he likes it, but he doesn't actively dislike it.
