Unfinished bottle of thawed BM?

I have mostly 4 oz bags of frozen BM. We are starting to give DD a bottle occasionally in preparation for my return to work. DD has not finished a 4 oz bottle... It may be too much for her as she is not a big eater. I did not have this problem with my first kid so I don't know what to do. I hate to dump out the thawed milk that she does not finish. Is there a general rule on what to do with leftover thawed milk? Can we refrigerate it for the next feeding or does it have to be dumped?

Re: Unfinished bottle of thawed BM?

  • My mom usually has LO while I'm at work and she will keep what she doesn't eat and give it to her at the next feeding. She doesn't put it back in the fridge but she always uses it by the next feeding so I'm not sure how long you can keep it without being refridgerated...Not sure if that helps or not but maybe this link will help. https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/milkstorage/

  • I try not to get too worked up about reusing breastmilk.  I take it out of the freezer the night before work, then it is partially thawed in the morning.  My mom uses it and if there is any extra she keeps it in fridge, or if it is in the bottle she will just put the bottle back in the fridge and use it within a couple hours.  I know some people say that if they drink out of the bottle to use it within an hour but my baby has been fine, just use common sense :)
