Christopher is afraid/wary of many a thing - the vaccuum, the food processor, etc. He also is wary of the mop which I guess if I was a kid would be kinda scary - tall, weird "hair". Anyway, I took a chance and decided to mop the kitchen on Sunday while the baby was sleeping. I carried the mop very matter-of-fact-like into the kitchen. He seemed curious and not afraid. He saw me dunking the mop into the bucket to get some suds going and he walked over and stretched out his hand towards the stick, so I let him have it and he proceeded to start dunking it in and out of the bucket. He smiled like it was funny. So we did that for a while. I would mop, he would dunk, until we were done. Yay, one less thing he's afraid of.
DD mastered taking off her socks. Now she's draping them back over her foot trying to put them on! She kept at it too. She knows where they go and what they're supposed to do, she just has to develop the fine motor skills and figure HOW to do it.
Last night, M's teacher cried at our parent-teacher conference because she can't believe how well he's doing. His reading has improved an entire level and he's learned how to count backwards and a bunch of math strategies--and is dying to learn multiplication! She said she was worried when she met him that she wouldn't be able to help him, but he is the hardest working student she has, and she is so touched by him and all he's come through!
I signed DS up for an all day Zoo Camp that ran from 9am-4pm on Monday. Preschool is only 2.5 hours long, he's never been to an all day anything except the occassional weekend at grandma's. I emailed the camo coordinator ahead of time and the gave a copy of the email to the person doing check in.
When I picked him up I heard from 3 different people how well he did. Apparently he charmed one of the teenage helpers. I also managed to get a little info out of him on the drive home. He saw elephants, giraffes, and leopards. They brought snakes and lizards into the room for the kids to touch. He ate fish crackers and a cherry Popsicle for snack. He really likes Miss Lindsey! Not a bad conversation :-)
Another. Yesterday his teo best buddies were absent from preschool, when I picked him up he told me he played with Jojo, Makenna, and Izzy at recess. I'm so happy he was able to go with the flow and play with some of the other kids (and tell me about it). I'm pretty sure he almost exclusively plays with Evan and Molly when he has the choice.
In the past month and a half since DS started OT we are seeing such a HUGE difference. He is dressing himself for the first time. Less issues with grooming and eating. His fine motor is improving. After two years of potty training failure, he all of a sudden started recognizing when he has to go! He is chewing less, sleeping better and not rocking at all.
His auditory processing is 100 X better. Monday while I was recapping the session with his OT he was watching his fav cartoon on my phone...calmly AND quietly...he's a seeker, so that in itself is amazing. When she was walking out, the OT said "Bye! I'll see you on Thursday!" He actually looked up with absolutely no prompting and said "Bye Miss Jess. See you on Thursday!" The OT and I looked at each other like "OMG! That is amazing!" A few weeks ago he would have just ignored her and not even looked up from his cartoon.
He seems so much happier and less frustrated. It makes my heart full. I am so glad we switched therapists, and I just wish that I had realized that he needed all of this before.

I don't post on here very often, but I'll join in today. My DD has spina bifida so she has no feeling or movement in her legs below her hips. She can crawl around and rolls from tummy to back, but rolling from back to tummy is way harder. We've been working on that for a while and I only needed to give her a little lift to get her to flip over. But tonight she rolled over all by herself! I put her down on the floor to change her diaper and she flipped, like she'd been doing it all along. Now diaper changes are going to get a little more challenging but I am so proud of her!
I've been seeing more and more back-and-forth, cooperative play between DD1 and DD2. It's kind of awesome. The other day, they were playing pirates (DD2's favorite) and Captain Hook kept "stealing their treasure" and then they would try to get him to bring it back. I see more and more storyline and flexibility in DD1's play, and I think DD2 is a big factor in pushing her.
Tonight at her music therapy class, the instructor played a song on guitar and gave each kid a turn playing a xylophone along with her. When it was DD1's turn, she didn't just randomly do scales or something -- she played a beat with each syllable of the words, and she actually seemed to be instinctively playing the right notes along with the instructor's singing. Not perfectly, of course, but noticeably matching the tune. It gave me goosebumps. The instructor was really impressed and said that she "played very intuitively."
I think music may be in our future in one way or another.
Re: Brag day Wednesday!
Favorite post of the week. I love these brags!
DD took a bite of a banana and swallowed it (gagged but eventually it went down).
I LOVE MY THREE KIDS!
