s/o grandma stories

My grandma was this sweet white haired lady that embriodered altar cloths, went to church every day and was very Catholic, she had a feisty side and was called "Buster" when she was little. She died at 91 back in 2003.

Anyway years ago when she was  probably in her mid-80s, she took me to breakfast on a break home from college. We were just chatting and talking about computers. She looked at me and asked, "Do you use the intercourse?"

To my credit I didn't chuckle out loud,  but said "You mean the internet, grandma?"

Oh the blushing! She put her hand up to her mouth all shocked and said "yes".

So so cute. I miss her.

Exactly. We called her and her sisters the "QTips" because they all had the most beautiful white hair.

  • What a cute story.

My one grandmother was a BSC Ukrainian lady that yelled at me in a language I didn't understand.  She had a really rough life in Ukraine during WWII though, so she gets a pass for being crazy.

My other grandmother is a beer drinking, Walker Texas Ranger loving, church going artist with a fantastic sense of humor.  I should probably go visit.

That story is hilarious and sweet.

I barely knew my maternal grandma but she was apparently a hilarious lady. Her name was Peninah. Isn't that a bizzaro name? And she had this rhyme they made up about her name. I am trying to remember how it went. It even had hand actions.

My paternal grandma is still around. She's crazy awesome. Smokes, drinks and has a boyfriend who lives with her. They party all the time. And they drunk dial me on the regular.

    AWESOME!!

  • My paternal grandmother was a fiery German from Hacksensack, New Jersey whose father was the chief of police. Apparently I look exactly like him. There are so many stories I could tell, but here's my favorite: Grandma was a nurse during WWII and one day news filtered through the hospital that "The General" was coming to visit. Later, as she was on her way to a patient's room with an enema tray, she stopped and saw Gen. Omar Bradley walking down the hall, greeting everyone. He got to her and said, "What's for breakfast this morning, nurse?" and lifted the cover off the tray. He turned red, replaced the cover, and said, "Carry on, nurse."
  • My mom's mom grew up in the depression and hungry.  She later became an awesome caterer but obsessed with food.  She lived with us when I was younger and we would literally be choking down pancakes and eggs and she was asking what we wanted for dinner, which was always amazing.  I can't even explain what holidays were like.  OMG the food.  I learned everything I know about cooking from her.  Every now and then when I'm cooking I just break down because I miss her so much.

My dad's mom was super Catholic/religious.  She was a combination of Rose from Golden Girls and Mother Angelica on EWTN.  I heard her swear once in her life and I literally thought the world must be ending.  She had the most beautiful handwriting ever.
