OK, I am back- my GYN just called and she is starting me on 100 mg of Clomid (I start today- Day 4). She also got the results back from my husband's semen analysis... and they aren't good. He has a low count, low motility, AND low morphology. I am devastated right now and I don't even know how to tell him (he has 2 kids from a previous marriage). He is very healthy- does P90X everyday, eats low-carb, and takes plenty of vitamins. I am honestly beyond myself right now and trying to keep it together. He keeps telling me that I have to relax and we will get pregnant, but I don't think it's as easy as he thinks... especially after hearing this. Anyone else go through this?
I am so sorry-- I would get a repeat SA. If your DH has been sick etc it could cause low numbers. If the repeat Sa is still bad he needs to see a Urologists that deals with male fertility (not all do!). Make sure he isn't taking any weird supplements etc... Even "natural" ones especially anything with Testosterone can cause havoc on the SA.
Also before you start Clomid have you had an HSG?

IUI #1-#4 BFNs and a few cancelled cycles in the mix. - poor responder ***Suprise BFP on 6/13/13. Natural MC @6wks 3days IVF#1 and 2- Cancelled due to no response on max stimms FET 5/20- BFP 1st Beta- 641 2nd beta- 2166 Sono- TWINS!!!! Two Boys! Born January 2015 @36 weeks. Healthy and no NICU! So blessed!
Thanks for the info. He takes a million supplements a day, eats low-carb, and does P90X... he is obsessed with his supplements and I suspect it's something in there that is causing these issues. She recommended we go to a urologist (she referred us to someone), but I think I will ask for a repeat SA just in case.
I am going for my HSG next week but am still going forward with Clomid for now. I talked to the doctor about it, and she said if I wanted to that it's fine. So this is my 2nd month on it... I did not ovulate (according to FF) last month so maybe this month (fingers crossed).
yes the supplements could be your culprit is they have any hormones etc in them.
HSG is super important before you start clomid- you have a lifetime of 6x ( due to ovarian cancer risks etc) so I hate to see people waste a cycle is they have blocked tubes etc... I would ditch the OBGYN and see an RE after your testing comes back.
But I hope you get your BFP very soon! Good luck!

The urologists will require more sa's my husband's had him giving one every 3 months, now our re doesn't require that often.
Another thing our re said was that depending on where the SA was tested could sway the numbers so the hospital where we had ours done do not necessarily put sa as a priorty, when they have life and death labs to review. Less particular in their accounting, but get an RE!
My husband had a low sperm count, but he stopped taking the vitamins/supplements that he took on his own and changed to the regime that the RE gave him, he retested and his SA came back great, so there is hope.
Good Luck to you and your husband and hope all gets straightened out very soon.
There are many reasons for a low SA count. Any illness, fever, medicines, laptop on lap, and supplements to name just a few are common culprits. Did he get the SA in RE's office or an independent lab? Often times an independent lab do not run them quick enough which can effect the results. Supplements can be another big problem. Many supplements for workouts can effect hormones so I would look into that possibility further. I know it's tough my husband and I are in the same boat.
Me:36 DH: 34
TTC since 02/2012, not preventing since 2010.
Me: testing came back good. DH: dx: MIF low count/motility.
RE recommends IVF with ICSI.
Update: DH just diagnosed with severe Crohn's disease, so any IF treatment is on hold
My husband agreed to go to the specialist and to re-check his supplements, so yay for that. I have my HSG scheduled for Monday now. I am nervous for it and asked my mom to come- she lives about 3 hours from me. Otherwise, it may have to be one of my in-laws if DH has to work... and while I like my in-laws, I prefer my own parents (or even to go alone). Ugh- why can't everything be easy and normal???
