need help...i have Verizon, a broken LG env 3, so i need a new phone but am cheap and don't want the added cost of a data plan. so i guess...what's your basic phone?
MH works for VZW. He said to just go online and order whatever their free phone is. I know his location doesn't even carry basic phones anymore. If you go into the store you'll just get pressured and annoyed. If you work have it shipped to your work so you can sign for it. You should have it by Friday.
Also I had the original enV and it was literally the best phone I've ever owned and I've had 6 new phones in less than 4 years. I was so sad when it crapped out!!
I have a basic phone. We switched over the summer from verizon to Sprint. I have a touch phone and I hate it. I miss my old LG phone.
We went with sprint because we did not want data and we pay for my parent cell phones it was the cheapest route for us. We have 4 phones and pay 100 dollars plus MH gets reimbursed $70 through work.
Finding nice basic phones that is easy to text on is hard.
DH had a basic phone until recently. In December, we switched both our phones and our plans. He now has a smart phone (Samsung Galaxy), but doesn't have any data on it so he's still using it as a basic phone (you can switch off the data so you don't accidentally use it). It was free, and it means that if in a few months, a year, whatever, he decides he does want a smart phone we just change his plan to one with data. You might want to consider that, since the basic phones are hard to find and you can often get a smart phone for free on a promotion.

I'm in Canada, so it might be different here. We use Koodo (not sure if they exist in the States?), but I know that several of the companies we looked at we had this option.

I don't know of any company that lets you get a smart phone without the data package in the US. You can get free basic phones so it kind of defeats the purpose since you can't do anything with the phone anyway. Maybe if you get it as a prepaid you can?

That stinks. It's been so handy for us right now, since DH will probably want to switch within a year or so but doesn't need the data right now.
I keep my phones forever. I believe that it is a Samsung Galaxy, which I was told was a smart phone when I bought it. The data package plan is turned off, and we do have Verizon. I wish I had a smart phone, but we can't justify the expense because DH has one. We have DH's family on our plan (they reimburse us, it's cheaper for them this way) When SIL went to go and add a smart phone w/o a data package, like you said, they won't do it.
I'd follow Lopes advise. I hate going in there to buy new phones and the guys are like "Oh my God, I've never seen one of these so old"

Yeah its confusing because they have data phones that aren't technically smart phones so you can get them without data packages but they can do the things smart phones can do.
