Round Ligament pain at 10w?

I figure that's what I'm experiencing as it's not strong enough to cause me any real concern but I thought you experienced this in the second trimester? I know I'm getting close now but didn't think it would happen this soon. I had a fairly active day which could explain it. It's just coming as a dull ache in my left side close to my hip. Nothing severe but it's noticeable. Anyone else have this this early on?

  • Definitely first trimester!

  • Yep I had that starting around 9 or 10 weeks, too, although from the things I'd read in books it was a 2nd trimester thing.

  • Thank you! I'd say I'm more curious than concerned as I figure my body will let me know when something is going wrong. I did a lot of errands this afternoon (which I haven't been able to do much of recently) and then I went walking for an hour with friends. This is something I'm used to doing but with everything moving and growing in there I guess it's a little extra strain.

  • I felt it for the first time this morning when I sneezed.  But it was more of a sharp sudden pain.

  • I've had this since about 9 weeks. I especially notice it if I don't drink enough water or have had a busy day. It is really bad if I sneeze or get up fast too. I definitely think a dull ache is normal, but if you have concerns, there's no harm in calling the doctor or nurse line. They always help put me at ease. :)

  • Ive had it on and off since about 7 weeks but now it is definitely more often and pronounced. I asked my OB about it yesterday and she said that pregnancy is not something you "work through the pain in" if your hips or anything hurts, rest and drink water .. I rest and drinking water don't help then she wanted me to call her

I'm curious to see what happens now when I sneeze! LOL! I've noticed light cramping here and there but had that from the beginning but this new 'ache' is different than that. Just the left side so far. Not concerned. It's not painful. Just new.

But I read the same thing - second trimester is when it starts...I think some of these people who write these books have never had actual interactions with pregnant ladies! lol!

  • My midwife diagnosed me at 9.5 weeks.  All the books I read said its more common in the second trimester but none of the books said it was impossible in the first trimester.  Seems to hit first tri ladies who get it when they are around 10 weeks on average.  Everyone else waits til second tri.

  • Mine started around 7 weeks as well and my dr told me the same exact thing. I feel it more now in week 9.
  • I had it starting in the first tri with both pregnancies. It's normal.

  • I just asked this in another post. I am 10w 3d and today for the first time I got a giant pain in my left side that lasted maybe 20 minutes? The pain was so intense that it made me tear up. I assumed it was round ligament pain but I didn't know the time frame that it was suppose to occur. Thanks for the information.

  • Mine started at 5 weeks. I'm first time pregnant so I guess the stretching will be more pronounced. I've had it on and off the last two days and I'm now 10w4d...dull ache on the left side near my hip. My whole uterus is sore and tender, if I had to describe it, it feels like I've been kicked by a horse.

I might be a little concerned if it was this intense...I've never been kicked by a horse but I imagine it's pretty painful!
Mine is definitely not this bad and seems to have subsided for now. It got a little sharp when I went to stand up but it was pretty quick and left right away. So I'm going to chill out for the rest of the night, get some work done at my desk and see how it is tomorrow.

  • I still don't know if its RLP that I'm experiencing, but I do have an ache every once in awhile, I especially notice it when I stand up after sitting, it feels like stretching an achy muscle or something but stops within a few seconds. If it is RLP mine started around 8 weeks.

That sounds like it but I'm not a Dr. Mine was doing the same tonight when I stood up.

  • mine started almost immediately i think/ i had that ache muscle thing you mention that happens when you stand up,  but it really kicked into high gear the very day i turned 10w (last sunday).

  • My doctors said you may feel it through the whole pregnancy. And as long as is random and not cramping that you can't Handel and doesn't last longer than 30 min you should be ok. It's normal
