Elise nn Ellie?

So DH and I have finally found a name choice that works for both of us and I want your honest thoughts and opinions here, ladies.

My Dh was set on the name Ellie, however I thought it was too much of a nickname and kind of childlike. I told him if we found a more formal name for her and used Ellie as her actual nn I could see it working. I mentioned the name Elise tonight and he really liked it! I'm not sure how I feel, yet. I do like the name, and I know there aren't many Elise's out there. What do you think? She will be going by Ellie most of the time but I wanted her to have a formal name, as well. We'll be pronouncing it ELEESE. Thoughts? Feelings? Impressions?

I sure hope so! We haven't thought that far ahead yet, and none of the other first names on our list would work as one. Middle name ideas would be appreciated, too!

I like Elise. What about Elle? I think that's a name that would grow with a child much better than Ellie. The only others I can think of are Ellen, Ella, Elizabeth, Eleanor

I love Elise and I think it's great that you found a name you like and that DH likes (And works for the nickname he really wants to give his future DD).

I really like Elise, but I am sooo over Ellie. I think you could do it if you wanted to though; it's not such a stretch.

We are pretty much in the same position. We both love Ellie, but it's too much of a nn for us. We have been thinking about Eleanor as the first name and calling her Ellie for short.

Weird! I am not pregnant but often debate a future daughter's name - I already have a DD named Claire Justine. I just came across Elise last week and am falling in love with it. Our middle name would be to honor my great grandmother, Josephine. I would also consider nicknames of Ellie or Elle. I think they both work. I also like the name as Alise, nickname Allie, but not sure if it's a real name. Guessing no.

I really like Elise but feel it doesn't lend itself to a nn. If you really like Ellie then I would pick a longer name like Elizabeth or Eleanore or pick a shorter name that fits Ellie better like Elle or Ella.
