i am hoping to hear from some of you who were administered cervidil due to lack of effacement. ?since 36w, i have been 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. ?at my appointment today, my doctor and i discussed that if i don't labor on my own in the next week, i will have to schedule an induction for the 16th or some time after.
i'm very nervous about the lack of progress my body has made and realize that this could mean a greater risk of having a c/s. ?can you tell me about your labor experience if you were given cervidil? ?i'm hoping there are some successful induction stories as i'm really hoping to avoid a c/s... i do realize that the baby has to come out somehow and i'd prefer a healthy baby over anything... but just was looking for someone to ease my mind.
thanks!?
Re: ? re: induction with cervidil...
I was induced and was BEGGING for a c-section after 20+ hours....i know i can't really help you out, but I just wanted to say that i LOVED the c-section and will definitely get it next time. It's really not that bad
good luck!!
Don't stress about it. Seriously. I wanted a natural birth. I ended up going into labor on my own, after worrying and worrying I would need an induction because of GD. And you know what?? After I went into labor ON MY OWN, my water broke ON IT'S OWN, and I pushed for 4 hours, I still ended up with a c/s due to a cord wrapped around the neck and an a-cephalic (sunny side up) baby.
If I could get all those moments of worrying about my possible induction, and also about how my birth would go, BACK, I would in a heartbeat. Enjoy these last days of being pregnant and enjoy your silence too. Don't worry about this kind of stuff. TRUST ME. You will hate yourself for it later.
Here is my birth story with Cervadil:
I was scheduled to be induced on Sunday night, around 11pm on Saturday I started having contractions. We had an appointment Friday with no progress, so it was quite a shock (and my doc was out of town!) We got to the hospital around 1:30am and the contractions were 3 minutes apart. The admitted me and administered Nubane (best.pain.medication.ever). I slept until 6 or 7am and we met with the on-call doctor for my practice. He said my doctor was on her way back into town and we should adminster the Cervadil since my contractions had slowed because of the pain medication. At 9am they gave me the Cervadil and said to plan to deliver in 12 to 24 hours. As soon as the medicine took, my contractions intensified and I felt the insane need to push. I told (screamed) the nurse what I was feeling and she called the anestheologist in to give me the epidural. I could not stop the urge to push and the contractions were on top of each other. I was fully dilated and ready to deliver, so I chose to go forward with no epidural. The oncall doctor from my practice didn't even make it in time, so the random on call doc at the hospital delivered her. No epidural turned out to be a blessing in disguise, recovery has been relatively easy.Finley Anne arrived at 9:26 am and she is perfect! It was way easier than I ever thought it would be and I am so thrilled to have her in my arms.
So Tasty, So Yummy
I personally feel that all inductions are successful because you end up with a baby no matter what in the end.
Mine was alright for the first 36 hours, but after that I began to come to terms with a c/s. I was in labor for 48 hours. I would prepare for the worst and hope for the best. However I did learn after my c/s that it was very unlikely that DS was ever going come on his own.
My SIL was induced with cervidil (sp?) a few nights ago. She was 100% effaced, 1 cm dilated and ended up with a c-section after spending all day in labor (I can't remember how many hours...) because the baby was in an awkward position and not pushing on her cervix.
I had the same problem (the awkward position) but I waited it out with no induction. I went into labor naturally at 41w6d and was in labor for 2 days before her head straightened out... 15 hours after that I delivered DD vaginally.
I think we both had crappy L&D because of the babys' positions, but honestly, I'd take my delivery over hers any day. She also had a crappy OB and I think her C could have been avoided by a better doctor.
Good luck with whatever you choose! In the end your DC will be here and it will have all been worth it. C-section, vaginal, medicated, or unmedicated... it all ends with your LO being here.
I was induced on my due date for various reasons. When I got to the hospital I was 1cm. They put the cervadil and within 4 hrs I was having regular contractions. Everything went really smoothly from then on. Got the epi, dr broke my water and started a bit of pitocin. Withing 2 hrs I was 10cm, I pushed for about an hour and got my beautiful baby boy. I know I am very lucky, and it was a great experience.
Good luck!
I was 39 weeks and had made no progress at all. My Baby was 9.5 lbs. so, they offered to induce, but gave me only a 20% chance of delivering vaginally. He was concerned about me trying and then having a C after tired and worn out. I ended up having the C the next morning. We are both good and it was not nearly as bad as I was afraid. We are both great, which was the importan part in my opinion.

I was induced at 41w due to low fluid. The cervidil kicked me into labor and I never needed pitocin. I did not need a c-section. I was in labor for about 12hrs.
Successful inductions do happen! Wishing that for you!
