Baptism outfit for DS

  1.
We are doing DS' baptism in May. I don't want him to wear a gown and I don't really like the little white polyester suites. Can I just have him wear a white cotton button down shirt and some little white or khakii pants?

    • I think that would be cute! I also know someone who had her friend knit her son a little jacket and pants and she just put them over a white onesie.

    • I didn't want a gown or shiny satin outfits either, but still wanted something baptismish.  I found a cotton  1pc baptism outfit online at gymboree for 50% off and it was perfect.  Another baby boy in our church was baptised a few weeks before us and e wore white shirt/khakis  and looked cute, just not like it was is baptism...so i guess it just depends on how you want him to look too.

    • You can have him wear whatever you like.  I am having hard time finding gowns for DD in the store.  I really hate shopping online but looks like I will have to go that route.  We are doing DD's baptism in April.

    • Our little guy wore a family baptismal gown (my grandmother on down has worn it), but to make my husband happy (he wasn't a fan of the gown), we found a nice cotton baptismal "suit" that he wore to the church and after the service (just put the gown on for the ceremony).  Nothing shiny, satin-y, or polyester in it.  My mother found it at Van Maur (don't think they have those in New England, though).  Good luck!  Also, I got him some really sweet white shoes with his monogram in blue off of etsy.
    • Thanks ladies! I will start looking around online to see what I find. I would mind a cotton one piece baptism outfit or something. My nephew had one of those shiny suits where the pants and shirt just had this elastic waste and were attached. I didn't like it and it looked like it would be itchy or uncomfortable. For DD's baptism I ordered her gown online and had the matching headband and shoes......her outfit was alot more fun shopping for :p
    • I did want a satin suit either. I found the baptism outfit for my DS at www.onesmallchild.com. I think they have a great selection. We got the Korbyn (sweater romper) because we are having him baptized in Chicago in March. You can also find some of their outfits at Amazon and get cheaper shipping. Also - if you get it from them, definitely measure your baby and don't go by the sizes as they are deceiving. I got size 9mo even though my DS is only going to be 5.5mos and is just now starting to wear 6 month clothes.

    • I found this onesie... https://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?SKU=124939&RN=7211&  It's only about $10 and it has a cross embroidered on it.  Very simple and cute.  I don't know if they have Burlington Coat Factory where you live, but they have a Baby Depot as part of their store and they had the same onesie even cheaper.  Just an idea for you.

    • That sounds great! I had the same issue, for my son I purchased his outfit from www.christeninggowns.com. I was able to get him a pant outfit from there. I now have a. Girl (4 months old) and will be getting her gown that website as well. Good luck!

When our son was baptized, we had him in a very nice cotton button down and some white pants.  His grandmother knitted a white head cap for him that really added to the outfit.  He was baptized with another little boy who had on the gown, and to be honest, it looked bad compared to the outfit our son had on.

    • We didn't want a gown either.  He just wore a nice outfit.  Historically speaking, baptism gowns are fairly "new".  Historically people were baptized in whatever clothes they were wearing and were given a white garment after baptism to signify the purification of baptism.
