Re: Belated GTKY Monday - your LO's birth day
This week's GTKY is about the day your LO(s) was born.
Fun! Especially b/c today is my DD's BIRTHDAY!
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section?
DD: My water broke and they induced me as soon as I got to the hospital
DS: Went into labor naturally
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing?
When my water broke with DD it was 3:30am and I was sleeping! I woke up to a popping feeling in my crotch and noticed wetness. When I got up to go into the bathroom I felt it running down my legs and was convinced I was peeing myself! Then I sat on the toilet (no lights on yet
and heard a huge gush. I remember thinking, "Wow! I really had to pee!" then thought it was strange because I really didn't feel like I had to go. I waddled over to the light switch to flick it on and another huge gush left a pool around my feet. I then realized I definitely was not peeing myself.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room?
Just DH both times. My mother in law came while I was in labor with DD and I told her to GTFO.
I told everyone they could come see the baby after we were up in post partum and situated, but my parents didn't listen and came to the delivery room right after DD was born and I was annoyed. It looked like a flippin' war zone in that room, I was delirious, exhausted, shaking, freezing and in a horrible amount of pain and I really wanted to take my first pee alone, but oh well. With DS we didn't call to tell anyone he was born until after we were up in PP
Lesson learned!
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born?
DD 36 weeks on the dot
DS 38 weeks (and ? days ... can't remember.)
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)?
DD 6 lbs 10.5 oz, 19.75"
DS 7 lbs 14 oz, 21"
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay?
With DD I will never forget my husbands reaction when my doc pulled her out - all I could hear over her cry was, "Oh my God. Awesome." That memory will always bring tears to my eyes. I'll never forget the sound of her wailing the second she came out and thinking that she was heavy when they laid her on me.
With DS I remember sobbing the second they handed him to me. My labor/delivery with him was crazy painful and I was so glad when he was in my arms safe and sound. I'll never forget his little cry and how warm he felt against my skin. Slime and all! Amazing.
MAKES ME WANT TO DO IT AGAIN ... NOW!

2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? not applicable
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? DH was in the OR, no one was in the waiting room at the time. We wanted some time for just the three of us, everyone arrived an hour or two later
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 39 weeks
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? Height: 20 inches, Weight: 7 lbs, 10 oz
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? 1. His first bath- he screamed like it was no tomorrow, 2. His newborn photos, 3. Hurricane Isaac was predicted to hit my town the last day we were there. Just remembering the hustle and bustle and fear of taking a newborn home with possibly no power! Luckily, Isaac veered west at the last minute and missed us.
Ooh fun! I'm that super annoying chick who had the best labor and delivery ever, and won't stop talking about it. I would say I'm sorry, but I'm really not.
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? I went into labor naturally. I had contractions all day on Saturday, but didn't think it was real labor. We even went to my neighbor's birthday party that night. MH wanted to go to the hospital, but I refused because they weren't consistently 5 minutes apart. MH told me not to wake him up at 2 am and tell him it was time. Haha, see next answer.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? At 1:45 am, I got up to use the restroom. I laid back down and MH got up to use the restroom. Suddenly... POP! No water, but it was definitely broken. I called out to MH, you almost done in there? And he knew. He said, "well, I guess it's not 2 am yet."
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? I called my parents when my water broke, but they live 6 hours away. It was just MH and I in the delivery room. My parents arrived during my last 15 minutes of pushing, but I really just wanted MH in there with me. My mom was leaning so hard on the door trying to hear, that when the nurse opened the door to tell them she was born, my mom fell into the room.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? E was born exactly 3 days prior to her due date, so she was 39w4d.
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? She was 7 lbs, 3.3 oz. and 19.5 inches
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? Obviously the most memorable thing was that E was born. But the best memories were 1) I successfully delivered E naturally, and no one really believed I would; 2) The nurse suggested I order food immediately but I was so caught up in meeting my daughter that I didn't do it. Thankfully MH did, and I ate like a horse! and 3) We announced her name which we had kept secret during the pregnancy. And my dad and my grandfather were so honored that I named her after my grandmother who had just passed, that I thought they might cry.

4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 37 weeks
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? DS was 5lb13oz and DD was 4lb0.5oz
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? Seeing the look on DH's face when he looked over the curtain to see our babies being born, holding both babies for the first time, seeing how tiny my daughter was when they held her up over the curtain for me to see..she fit in the doctor's hand she was so tiny!

This week's GTKY is about the day your LO(s) was born.
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section
I had to be induced due to super high blood pressure, and then she got stuck so it turned into an emergency c-section
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing?
They broke my water at the hospital, they used this long hook that looked like a super large crochet hook lol. And SOOO much water came out!!
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room?
My hubby and my good nursing student friend were in the delivery room, only hubby was allowed in the OR

1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section?
I guess I would call it an "unplanned" c-section. The plan was for me to be induced and then do a c-section if LO started having decels during delivery. I had pre-e and LO had IUGR. However, before any of that, LO failed an NST (non-stress tests) due to heart rate decels on his own and so they did a c-section. They found the cord wrapped twice around his neck...hence, the decels. It was emergent, but it wasn't like a rush me immediately into the operating room and put me under general anesthesia "emergency." They even gave me the choice of having the on call doctor do it or waiting for my OB. I waited for my OB.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing?
N/A
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you?
Just DH.
Who was in the hospital waiting room?
My Mom, my husband's best friend, DH's parents
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born?
37 weeks...but he was measuring smaller.
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)?
5 lbs 1 ounce.
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay?
1. Them bringing me LO for the first time. I had been "warned" about how he might not look normal due to the assymetrical IUGR. My OB told me (in a joking way) that he might look like an alien - giant head (his head was always measuring on track) and super skinny. I had looked at some IUGR babies online and some of them did not look attractive. But he was just so perfect looking. He looked like a little china doll. He wasn't crying when they bought him over to me...he just opened his eyes and looked at me like he was very curious. It almost seemed like he knew who I was.
2. I felt "high" after the birth...and super sleepy. I thought they had given me something other than the epidural, but they said they didn't.
3. The on-call OB was the biggest jerk. I asked them to either take out or redo my IV line because it was hurting me and the nurse refused saying that it would take too long and I might have to go to the OR at a moment's notice if LO decelled and didn't come back up. I was very insistent pointing out that it takes all of about a minute to redo an IV line. I guess that pissed her off, so she called the "on-call OB." He acted like I had some sort of psychiatric problem/anxiety disorder because I kept telling him my IV was stinging/burning. I was there with LO having heart rate decels and he literally told me that if I didn't quit complaining, he would discharge me AMA, and I could leave and go somewhere else and endanger myself and my LO's life. I was in tears by the time he left. By the time I got to the OR (fortunately, my OB had made it and I didn't have to have the aforementioned jerk do the c-section), my arm was huge and swollen. The Anesthesiologist saw my arm and was pretty much like, "What the h*ll?" Two things had occurred: 1) The IV line had not been in a vessel and they had been pumping fluid directly into my arm and 2) I had had an allergic reaction to the tape they used and when they took the tape off, my skin came off with it...hence, the burning. I still have a scar from that tape. The anesthesiologist immediately took it out and put a new one in on the other arm. That damn IV hurt more than the epidural did! I still get pissed thinking about the on-call OB, though. What a jack ass.

May 2014 January Siggy Challenge:
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? I was induced and ended up having a c-section.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? Nope, the Dr broke my water.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? Just DH.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 41 weeks and 1 day
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? 9 lb 14 oz and 22 inches long.
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay?
1) Hearing DS cry for the first time - DH and I just started sobbing.
2) Finding out that we had a boy - when the Dr asked if we wanted to know what we had (we were both behind the curtain thing), we were like YES... and he goes, well you had a toddler, because of how big he was, everyone in the OR was laughing.
3) This is a tie between pushing for 3.5 hours and being told I needed a c-section and having an allergic reaction to the morphin and feeling like a complete crazy person on benadryl with no sleep in 48 hours.

1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? Naturally.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? At home, around 10 pm while I was swiffering under our bed.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Husband and MIL. Who was in the hospital waiting room? Dad, Dad's GF, FIL
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 40w4d
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? 21.5", 9 pounds 15 oz
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? The workers banking on the broken birth tub in my room while I was on all fours on the bed, naked, laboring. Pushing without contrax because the epi killed my labor. Crying when I held my son for the first time, telling him how long I had been waiting for him.
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section?
I went into labor naturally, but that was because infection had set in. I ended up having an emergent c-section since Adalyn was transverse.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing?
It is estimated that my water broke around 21 to 22 weeks with a small tear/leak. I never had a gush or anything. In fact, if it wasn't for a routine fetal echocardiogram, we wouldn't have known and in all likelihood lost the baby. The ultrasound was done at 22w6d, and I went straight from the u/s to being admitted to the hospital. I stayed on hospital bedrest for 24 days before the infection set in.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room?
DH was in the OR, but they had to kick him out. They had to give me ketamine since the epidural/spinal didn't completely take and I was stoned out of my mind. As soon as Adalyn came out, I started moaning and they were asking me if I felt pain. I answered in moans. They kicked DH out, intubated me, and put me under general anesthesia.
My dad, sister, BFF, and BFF's sister were in the waiting room.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born?
Technically 26w2d since she was born at 12:17am, but I went into labor at 26w1d.
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)?
1 pound 12 ounces, 12 inches long
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay?
Unfortunately, the most memorable things during my delivery and hospital stay were not really happy memories, but memories nonetheless. These memories have definitely affected my life and have made me grow as a person.
1. When the bloodwork came back with elevated WBC (showing infection) and a fever, the nurse in L&D came in and said "I spoke with your doctor. She is going to come and take the baby." Really, lady? Take the baby? Thanks for choosing the absolute WORSE phrase.
2. When I came to after my psychedlic trip/feeling like I had been hungover in the OR recovery, the first question I asked (without really seeing anyone's face since it was all blurry) was "Was my daughter stillborn or is she alive?" It's not fair that I had to ask that.
3. Not being able to meet my daughter until around 9am the next morning for the first time. And then, only being able to let her hand touch my finger and only interact with her for about 5 minutes every 6 hours. I didn't get to hold her until she was 3 weeks old.

Very fun!
1. After my 36w OB appointment (I was fully effaced, but not dilated), my water broke! Four hours later, the boys were born via c/s.
2. I went to the restroom and saw blood on the tp, but figured it was from the internal. About an hour later, I went to the restroom and as I was standing up, I felt a POP and the gush.
3. DH was in the OR, but left as soon as the boys went to the PACU. Our families are all out of state, so it was just us at the hospital!
4. 36w1d
5 Upper 4 lb. range for weights and lengths were 16 and 17 inches
6. Other than the big moments of hearing them cry and holding them...(a) After my water broke at home, I continued to leak, but the biggest gush came the second I stepped out of the car- right in front of the main entrance to the hospital. There I was, crouched over with a towel between my legs and a big puddle between my feet waiting for DH to come back with a wheelchair. Cars were passing by waving at me and wishing me good luck! I'm pretty sure most of the visitors that day saw my underwear. (b) Hearing their weights and the moment the neonatologist said they could come with me to the main floor. We had been terrified of the IUGR diagnosis and had no idea if we would be facing a NICU stay. It may sound tiny to some, but those weights were a dream for us! (c) Seeing myself in the mirror after the c/s. I screamed right before the nurse told me not to look. For some reason, they gave me a massive amount of fluid (so much that the neonatologist said the babies' weights had been inflated by my fluid levels). I hadn't really swelled in pregnancy, but I looked like Jabba from Star Wars during those first few days.

1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? Emergency c-section. I was dehydrated and contracting when I went into L&D. Baby's heart rate was elevated so they rushed me in for a c-section right away.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? n/a
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? Just my husband because I had a c-section. My parents, my sister, husband's parents and his best friend & his wife (they just happened to be in town for a wedding that weekend) My Aunt, cousin and best friend arrived to the waiting room shortly after I moved into recovery.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 39 weeks and 5 days.
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? 8 lbs 11oz, 19.5 inches long
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? 1. Hearing him cry for the first time and sobbing my eyes out. 2. The moment they laid him on my chest in the OR and I looked at my son for the first time 3. Seeing everything in double vision for 24 hours after his birth due to the awful magnesium they gave me to prevent seizures from elevated BP.
TTC #2
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section?
I was induced. I wasn't happy about it, but I felt it had become medically necessary, due to declining fluid level. I was induced overnight with cyctotec, then did 2 hours of pitocin the next day, but much of my actual labor was accomplished on my own steam. I did require a vacuum to help get DS out in the end though.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing?
During my labor, the Dr kept asking it she could break my water, and I refused every time. It must have gone on its own while I spent 5 hours laboring in the tub, because my membranes were not longer intact when I got out to push.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room?
MH, my doula, and the nurse and Dr.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born?
41w3d (I think I get the "latest baby award" thus far
) I was willing to go as long as 42 weeks had my stupid placenta been able to keep up.
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)?
7lbs 4 oz, 18.5"
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay?
Focusing on the sound of my husband's voice as I went through my labor in the tub at the hospital. It was really quite amazing what a great hynobirthing partner he turned into.
finding out that my DS was sunny side up after trying to push him out for 3 hours. I was kind of relieved. there was a good explanation for why i could not get him past my pubic bone!
having the vacuum finally work with me to get DS out! i was super scared that it would not work and i would end up in the OR. i was shocked at how big DS looked. He wasn't really a big baby, but he has always had a big head-- it was over 14" at birth.

1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? Induced....Luckily only needed cervidil!
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? broke at hospital
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room?Ugh, sore subject....DH was only one in the delivery room when LO was born. We only wanted it to be the 2 of us there at all until after LO was born. Labor took longer and IL's showed up because they were "concerned". MIL actually busted in to my delivery room......UGH stil very angry about this.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 41w3d
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? 21.5 in. 7 lbs 3 oz.
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay?1. Definitely baby boy coming out...after 2.5 hours of pushing and fear of complications from the vacuum . Luckily he came out on the 3rd push and I let out the loudest scream! Then they put that little guy on me! 2. DH completely surprising me by being the best labor coach I could've asked for. He just didn't seem that comfortable and I was surprised how quickly he jumped in to help me! 3. My first post-birth beverage! It was ginnger ale and it was sooooo yummy! During the previous night I started puking up the ice chips and popsicles I was allowed to have so they cut me off with those too. So I went about 24 hours with nothing to drink and after those hours pushing I was soooooo thirsty.
Wow! our stories are very similar...I even have you tied for latest baby!!

Our IVF miracle, Baby Boy M, arrived on 11/8/2012!
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? I was induced at 37 weeks due to PIH (had been on bed rest for about 2 months prior). DS was born vaginally 2 days later.
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? N/A - My water broke in the hospital on day 3 of my induction.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? DH was the only one with me in the delivery room. My parents, my sister, his mom and his sister were in the waiting room.
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 37w2d
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? 6lb 4 oz
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? Hearing DH say " he has dark hair" and realizing I had the strength left to push one last time, looking into my son's eyes for the first time and telling him "Welcome to the world, my love," and crying with DH the first time we saw DS in the NICU (he was admitted the day after he was born) because he looked so tiny hooked up to all those wires and tubes.

S&B born via induction 5.8.13
1. I was induced but ended up in an emergency c-section after 11 hours of labor because DD was face presentation and she was stuck. Poor thing looked like she had been in a fight when she was born.
3. DH was the only person in the room with me during the whole day. I didn't want anyone else in there and we made that very clear. It was so peaceful (up until I had to hurry to a c-section). We had about 20 people in the waiting room including our parents, grandparents, siblings, and some close friends. I actually would love to have this baby and not have anyone visit at the hospital but that won't happen. I found it exhausting to constantly have a stream of visitors all day for 3 days, with most people showing up without even calling or asking first. I will be very honest with people this time around and will turn people away if we need to rest.
4. 39w4d
5. DD was 8 lbs, 7 oz and 21.5 inches
6. 1) Being wheeled from my L&D room to the operating room and being absolutely scared to death. I remember I was shaking. I will never forget DH coming and sitting by my head when he finally was allowed in the OR and getting this instant calm over me. I felt so much better just having him there.
2) Hearing DD's first cry when she was born. It took my breath away. It was the absolute best moment of my life.
3) The nights in the hospital after visiting hours when it was just DH, DD and me. Our perfect little family. We would just cuddle and love on her and I will always cherish those times.

1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? I wen t into labor naturally but ended up with a c-section as LO got stuck
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? My water broke in bed in the middle of the night while I was sleeping
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? Just DH, we didn't want family hanging around all day for hours waiting so it was just the two of us. It was for the best because we got the hospital around 5:00 AM and LO was delivered the next morning around 2:00AM
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 39 weeks, 6 days
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? She was 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 inches and is still a peanut at almost 8 months!
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? My epidural stopped working, LO needing to be pushed back up during the c-section to be delivered and the first moment I heard her cry and knew everything was alright
IVF#3 brought us our miracle baby girl on June 26, 2012
1) Did you go into labor naturally, or planned c-section, or induced, or emergent c-section? I had a planned c-section but I went into labor 4 days early. Oops!
2) If your water broke before you got to the hospital, where were you and what were you doing? I was at home. I heard DH get up and leave for work, so I got up, went to the bathroom and came back to bed. Then I felt a little wetness, like more than normal, so I got back up and realized my water broke. DH had just got to work and he had to turn around and take me to the hospital.
3) Who was in the delivery room or OR with you? Who was in the hospital waiting room? It was just me and DH. My mom was supposed to be in town with me for after DD was born but since I went into labor early, she didn't make it. Again, oops!
4) What was your LO's gestational age when he/she was born? 38w 6d
5) How big was he/she (height/weight)? 6lbs, 4oz, and 18"
6) What were the 3 most memorable things during your delivery & your hospital stay? 1 - I remember the moment that she was born. I was so nervous, shaking and crying, and then I saw DH carrying her over to me, which I wasn't sure would happen (she had to go right to the NICU). I got to hold her before she left. 2 - She had to go to the NICU, which was in a different hospital connected to mine by a tunnel. I saw a lot of that tunnel! 3 - Back in my hospital room that night, watching Greys Anatomy and calling my friends and family to tell them that she came early.
