Prevacid and Zyrtec

in 1st Trimester

Hi ladies-

 

I've been told by my doctor that I'm able to take Prevacid for my GERD (hell, by the way,) and Zyrtec for allergies, but I'm literally needing them everyday. Anyone know if it's ok to take them that often? I'm assuming that bc my OB didn't warn against it, it's fine, but need some reassurance or experiences from others to help me! Thanks in advance!!

    I take Zyrtec daily. It is a class B medicin so it is pretty safe. My OB said it was fine to take.

    I had to take one of these (prevacid, I think) when I was pregnant the first time because I had acid reflux so badly, I was vomitting every night.  My OB told me I didn't have to suffer and to take this, which I did every day and she was fine with.

    I went off zyrtec 6 weeks before I got pregnant.  I thought I couldn't live without it and had been taking it daily for 10 years.  Turns out a lot of my "allergy symptoms" were being manufactured by the Zyrtec, I kid you not.  Took me 6 weeks to completely get the drug out of my system and be done with withdrawal symptoms- which included insomnia, itchy throat, stuffy/runny nose.  Once withdrawal was complete those symptoms stopped completely.    

    I now drink a spoonful of raw, local honey in a glass of warm water each morning and that has kept my allergies in control so far :-)   

    I realize this isn't an option for everyone, but wanted to share my story...

    Thanks everyone! Very helpful as usual! Love the honey plan and have considered it for awhile, but will probably be looking to try after either pregnancy altogether or at least the first trimester since I'm basically miserable with allergies and headaches right now!

    I took Zyrtec and Zantac daily for my entire pregnancy last time. The benefits for me, far outweighed any risks. DD is a perfectly normal and healthy 17 month old.
