10 weeks old - sleep training questions

I am BFing the boys and supplementing as needed, usually about 8oz each a day. We're swaddling their arms and putting them down around 9pm most nights, and they sleep until sometime between 1 and 3. After that they're just up and down the rest of the night, and I'm not sure what to do with them. Normally I'd just cosleep and let the baby nurse all night, but there are two and I only have one boob to offer at a time. We've tried switching off and having DH give a bottle to whomever isn't nursing, but it seems like they're just "on" from 2 to 7 and it's starting to wear on us a little. I wouldn't be too bothered, but I am having a really hard time getting rid of this bug because I'm so wiped out! Any input would be great!

  • No input, but lots of commiseration. I keep hearing that it gets better!

  • I think it's way too early sleep train- sorry! I remember dying for them to sleep the night which happened right at 4 months old on their old. They just led me to it, no training.
  • Sorry to hear this...can't imagine how you're keeping up right now with 3 others to tend to as well! Could you push their bedtime back a bit....my boys would have a nap after dinnertime then when they woke up we would do bath...awake time...tried to not do their "bedtime" till closer to 10 or 11.....and I would top them up with formula at this time..and by around 12 weeks I think they were going from about 10-5 or 6am ..... I found it easier to make it through the day if I got up at 5 as opposed to being up around that 2-4am mark...I would also try to catch a nap around 8pm if possible till their last feed...hopefully its just a developmental thing and they move on from it quick so mama can get some sleep!

I am going to try this for a few nights and see what we come up with. It sounds pretty reasonable - I'll let you know! Thanks!

  • Did i.hack.your.screen.name.and.write a post about.my life with twins? I.am seriously going through the same exact thing right now, complete with a cold. I have made.dh sleep.in.the other room so that i.can have enough room.to.have one baby.on.each side.of.me, thus.making.it.easier.to.alternate nursing. It.is.not.working.out that well because they have been waking up at the exact.same.time. i am a very tired.and.kind.of.unhappy.person.these days. Dh wants me.to.start going.to.sleep at 7pm, but usually they are still awake then. Plus that leaves literally NO.personal.time.ever for.me. i.NEED a little.self.time.to.keep.my quickly.fading.sanity. No.advice at all....i.suck.at this.big.time.....but definite.commiseration.

I mean, I'm no newbie to dealing with babies, but when they say "identical," they mean absolutely everything. If one starts to squirm in one room, the other one can be across the house waking up at the same time, so when one is hungry, the other one is right there freaking out. The good news is, this time passes quickly. The bad news is that it seems VERY long when you're in the thick of it. :-/ We'll be okay. I promise.

  • I figured out a way, with DH's help, to side lie nurse them both at the same time.  The smaller babe on top of the bigger babe.  Baby on the bottom latches to lower breast, baby on top has his/her head on bottom baby's torso and latches to upper breast.  It didn't work until they had decent head control but it's our go to, two at a time, nurse 'em quick and get them back to sleep nursing position.  GL!
