I was thinking about this the other day so I wanted to ask.
1 how old do you have to be to get your permit or license in your state?
2 do you have to have your permit first?
3 did you fail either?
4 where's the 1st place you drove when you got our lisence?
Re: poll about driving.
2 yes
3 I failed my permit 1 time and my lisence the first time. Boy did I sob overthat!
4 iI drove straight to my best friends house!
1. In NJ it is 17 to get a license, now I believe it's 17 for a junior license and you need that for a year before you get a regular license (unless you're over 21 when you get your first license). The junior license didn't exist when I was 17, so it was just a regular license then.
2. Yes, you had to have a permit first. You could get that at 16.
3. Did not fail either
4. I borrowed my mom's car and my sister, brother and I went and got a kitten. We hadn't mentioned this plan to my mom lol!
I have no idea how it works where we live now, but I'll answer for MI where I grew up
1. You can start driver's ed at 15, and you get a learner's permit when you finish. Restricted license at 16, unrestricted after 17, if I remember correctly.
2. Yes, you have to log a certain number of behind the wheel hours with your guardian while you have your permit before you can take the test.
3. No failing here.
4. To take friends out for ice cream!

I got my farmers permit and didn't fail anything.
I drove our dog to a vet appointment.
1 how old do you have to be to get your permit or license in your state? I have no idea for this state but I think I was driving at 14. I was able to get a farm permit and drive to school and back.
2 do you have to have your permit first? You didn't need a a permit first back then.
3 did you fail either? No
4 where's the 1st place you drove when you got our license? I have no idea because I had been driving for so long before then. A few days after my birthday my parents bought me a new car and I know I picked up some friends and we went shopping that day.
2 do you have to have your permit first? No idea. I assume so considering you would need to learn how to drive to prepare for the test, right? How would you do that without a permit?
3 did you fail either? Nope!
4 where's the 1st place you drove when you got our lisence? My dad took me during the day for my exam so I drove him back to work and then my first solo drive was from his office to our house, which was all of a few miles

In BC, you can take a computer test on your 16th birthday for your Learners permit. With it you can drive with an adult over 25, and only one non-family member as a passenger. Then, after 2 years, you can take a driving test for your New Driver permit, which allows you to drive alone, and with a maximum of 2 non-family passengers. Then, after 2 more years, you can take another driving exam to get your full license.
I barely passed my computer test for my L, failed my driving test for my N the first time I tried, but but got it the second time, and passed my exam for a full license will flying colours
1. 16
2. Now there is graduated licensing which takes time, when I got my license, if you could pass the day you turned 16 you were a fully licensed driver that day with no restrictions. Now, it takes forever. Restrictions on number of passengers, nighttime driving, certain highways, etc.
3. No, I passed both tests first try (written and practical).
4. Home. My mom walked home after I passed my driver's test and I drove on my own.
Here in Alberta it's 14 for a learners, which only requires a written test of 10 questions. You then have to have an adult (anyone over 18 with a drivers license of their own) with you anytime you drive. At 16 you can get your drivers license - you just have to pass a driving test. There is no driver's ed class required, but it does help pass the test for sure! When I was 16 it was the day you turned 16 with no restrictions what-so-ever. Now it's a graduated license system where at 16 you can only drive with a certain number of people in the vehicle, no driving between midnight & 5 am, and zero alcohol/drug tolerance. After you have your GDL for 2 years you take another driving test and you are good to go forever.
I didn't fail either and can't remember the first place I drove.

1. Have to be 15.5 to get your learners permit and then 16 to get your license after logging 20hours drive time with an instructor and drivers ed classes.
2. Yes. Unless you are 18+ then you can just take the test to get your license.
3. Nope passed both with flying colors.
