Crib transition with older babies

If you transitioned your babies to their cribs after 4 months old, how did it work out?

Our babies are, for the most part, still sleeping in their rock and plays. We've tried to get them in their cribs, but considering they only sleep 2-3 hours before waking up, then waking each other up and we have to constantly walk in there to soothe...we give up quickly, move them back to the rnp's where we all get sleep.

I feel like I'm failing miserably by not working harder at the cribs. With my first DS, he hated his crib too, but I had the energy to work with him on it at night because I knew I could nap when he napped during the day. Not an option now with two babies plus a toddler.

We plan to sleep train at 5 months old and move them to their cribs then. For now, I'm constantly feeling guilty because I've probably "set up bad habits" since it's past that 12 week mark.

Re: Crib transition with older babies

  • We moved the girls out of their rock and plays when we sleep trained at about 5 mos.  There was alot of crying that first night, less the second and they slept through the third - so I think it's a good time to do it. If you are getting sleep right now - I'd leave them wherever they sleep best.

  • Don't feel badly at all. Mine at still in their rnps at 4.5 months. Like you, my sleep is very valuable. I plan to sleep train next month so that is when I plan to transition to the crib. I say do what you have to do to get some sleep!
  • You will be happier when you move them- I had to do it at 3 months old because my kids are tall and they didn't fit in them anymore.
