1st Trimester

Spotting in 1 st trimester

I just found out that I am 7 weeks pregnant and I've had some spotting here an there is this normal? This is my first pregancy. Should I be worried?

Re: Spotting in 1 st trimester

  • I've read several places that it's nothing to worry about unless it's bright red or pink and accompanied by severe cramping.

  • You should let your doctor know, they can decide if it is normal or not. I actually had a sub chronic hematoma that was causing bleeding around 8 weeks. It is good to know if you have something wrong, because it may mean you need to take it easy, and refrain from any hanky panky. It could also be nothing, but it's always best to let the docs in the loop.

  • it has been a brownish color but hasn't really been accompanied with much cramping. Thanks for the tip!
  • It's scary as hell but it can be nothing. I agree with pp and let the doctor know so they can decide if you need to be seen or take any extra precautions.

  • I know it is scary, but if it's brown and you're not cramping it is probably nothing to worry about. My doctor said spotting is common, but not normal so you should let your doctor know to determine... They should check you out. One common cause is subchorionic hematoma. They actually found a cervical polyp in my case, and since removing it I haven't spotted in a week... So your doctor may be able to determine the cause. Often times, in the first semester though, women spot and no reason is ever figured out and they still go on to have viable pregnancies. Good luck to you!

  • I have spotted 4 times over about 3 weeks..first time a red pink color, second time brown, third time pink, and fourth time was after pap smear and it was red then pink the brown. Bloodwork was normal and ultrasound too. My midwife says I have a sensitive cervix...and not to worry unless I bleed heavy like a period and have cramping with the spotting.
  • 50% of women experience spotting during their pregnancies.  The color of the spotting does not matter.  Intercourse and sonograms can also cause some spotting.  When I miscarried, my spotting was very light and was only evident when I wiped.  Color varied from a light pink, brown and some red, and had very mild cramping.  Would not hurt to call your doctor if you're concerned.
  • I am close to nine weeks and I have been spotting as well my doctor said it is fine if it is brown or pink red is bad. I have been having cramps and brown spotting it is the time I should have had my period so Hope it is all good it is scary and nerve racking. I Hope it ends soon almost three days now. I am glad to be on here and be able to discuss with others who can relate
