I am looking for a new baby carrier. With DS I used the Moby wrap when he was little and moved into the Ergo as he grew. I never liked the Moby wrap, but the Ergo cannot be used with a newborn without the insert. Does anyone have any experience with either the Boba or Beco carriers (not wraps)? I would like it to be a lighter weight (for summer) and don't care about forward facing. I also doubt I will use it with a toddler, so that is not really a selling point.
Re: Boba or beco?
If you are looking for something specifically with a smaller baby...I'd go for something you can do legs out with a very small baby - so not the boba. The Beco Butterfly has an infant harness and the Beco Gemini is very narrow so both work for legs out small babies ok. The Pikkolo is another option as it has a cincher at the bottom. The pikkolo and gemini allow you to cross the shoulder straps in a front carry which is my preference unlike the ergo, boba or butterfly.
Personally though I don't like buckles for small babies. Have you considered a mei tai? Babyhawk is a good newborn/small baby brand. And they are lighter weight than a buckle carrier.

I have a Beco Butterfly 2 and have enjoyed it. It is on a hiatus at present bc I just couldn't handle wearing my DS who is now 18 months once I hit the third trimester (have 5 weeks left!). Made me sad
I do like that it came with an insert for LOs, whereas the Ergo has a separate piece you have to purchase. I am kind of interested in the new Moby carrier... but I would really like to see it in more colors! I have a Moby wrap, although it is brown and probably not going to be a good option for summer. I am probably going to check into getting a mei tei or making my own.
