Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleeping in Crib

How old was your baby when you put them in a crib? Mine is 4 months and he screams when I put him in it - tried everything! im thinking maybe to wait another month then try again?

Re: Sleeping in Crib

  • Maybe try putting him in it for a few minutes through out the day to get him used to the surroundings? My LO has been in his crib since the first night home so I have no good advice, but good luck!

  • DS s almost 4 mos. and he's only been in it for two weeks. I started swaddling him and putting him in for naps. Once he was used to napping there a few days I started nights, too. I trie when he was younger nd he would scream and wake and startle. I really think the swaddle made the difference.
  • Also, where is your baby now? In their room but just sleeping in something else, o still in your room. When DS was two months I moved his RNP into his room so at least he would be familiar with sleeping in his room, even if not in the crib. If your LO is still in your room, Abe try something like that first? GL!
  • hes in our room in the RnP but he's getting too big for it! he wants to stretch and kick his legs - hates when I swaddle, loves his feet out and loves when i take his socks off lol.  I am going to have him sleep in his RnP in his room to see how that works.  Thanks!

  • I agree, start with the RnP in his room for a little while first. To be honest, we are still struggling with getting out LO out of his RnP and into his crib. He sleeps in his crib most nights now, but he still prefers the RnP. Honestly, once he is used to his room, it might take a couple of nights of you not getting much sleep at all to make him stay in the crib. We did this for a couple of nights on the weekend, and then on Sunday night, we started him in his crib, and just figured we would move him to his RnP once he woke up. Well after those first couple nights of being up with him, this third night he slept for something like 6 hours in his crib, it was great. They just need to get used to it, and you have to be patient and persistent.

DS hated it too, but would wake otherwise. He seems fine with it now. FYI if you use the Velcro swaddle sacks, you can leave their legs out and just do arms if you go to the point where you wanted to try it.

  • My LO is 3 1/2 months and he has been sleeping in his crib for the past 2 weeks. He used to love sleeping in his PNP napper that was in our room. We ended up putting the PNP in his room for a few weeks and slowly transitioned him to the crib. He now realizes he has much more space and loves kicking his little legs around.

  • My LO has been in his crib for a cople of months now. He was in a PNP in my room.  What I did was took him in his room and put him in his crib and played with him.  Did that for a few days and then put him in his crib for naps for about a week.  Once he was napping in there I put him in there for bedtime.  He loves to sleep in his crib now bc of the extra room.  I sleep much better and he does too since he's in his own room.  Once he realizes that it's his, he's safe and comfy it'll happen.  Good luck!

  • What if your Lo is too large for swaddling?

DS LOVES sleep sacks.  Never liked being swaddled, and now is too big.
