Second time moms help? Starting to show...

I'm pretty thin/fit and am starting to really show, though a bunch of people who have been pregnant/are pregnant said I probably wouldn't show until at least into my 2nd tri. I know everyone is different, but I am wondering if how early you show has anything to do with how big you'll get in the end? I'm nervous about being a whale all *hot* summer long...any second time moms have input on this? How early did you show, and do you think this impacted how big you got by 36/38/40weeks? Or do most people get to around the same size whether they start showing early or late? Thanks!

  • Your size at the end depends on the size of the baby.

  • This is my 4th pregnancy and I've never noticed a correlation between how early you start showing and how big you will be in the end. When it's all said and done your body is going to gain what it needs to gain to keep you and your baby healthy as long as you are eating plenty of healthy foods. In your third trimester you are going to feel huge...it's just part of it. Just remember you are creating a life and all of this uncomfortable stuff does not last forever and at the end of it you'll get to enjoy the reward of that precious baby!
  • I am 5'7 and weighed 135 when I got pregnant the first time. I started showing about 18 weeks. Gained 30 lbs. during pregnancy and had a 7lb. Baby people said I looked 32 weeks when I was 40 weeks. My friend who is my same size gained the same amount of weight, her baby was 7.2 but carried the weight much different. She showed at 12 weeks. I think everyone's body is different. I'm hoping I, too, am hoping I'm not a whale for summer.
  • I'm 8w3d pg and I feel like I'm showing already. My pants are definitely tight. I didn't show until 18 weeks with my first, so I'm nervous about hiding this one for another 4 weeks. I'm 30 pounds lighter than I was when I got pregnant with my first, so I'm not sure how that will affect things either. I really don't want to gain 40 pounds again, but it's all happening so fast this time! Sheesh!

  • I started showing at 9wks with my 1st. by the end I was all baby. I only gained 23lbs thru my whole pregnancy. I have a really short torso so I think that had a lot to do with showing so early.

  • Every one is different and I have noticed a trend on here of people dismissing claims of showing by saying its impossible because baby is behind pelvic bone until 12 weeks. This is my fourth baby and all four times this wasn't the case with me. You can tell what's baby and what's bloat on your own body. I have always showed early and have had almost nine pound babies every time. BUT that's because I ate everything in sight and didn't exercise properly. Eating the right foods will go a long way in deciding weight gain.
  • With my first, I had a definite noticeable bump at 14 weeks. I started at 114, 5 ft 9 in. I was still slim, but had an enormous belly by the end. Baby was 7 lb 10 oz, and I gained 30 lbs.

  • You're noticing your bloat bump because you know and are looking for changes. A coworker of mine who is the size of a stick kept it a secret until 20w. How I show won't help you figure out how big you'll get. It's all about your body type and how big baby gets.

  • I have noticed this time around I am WAAAAY more bloated then I was at this stage with #1.  So I don't think I am showing but its definately more obvious how bloated I look.  My first I didn't really start showing where people could tell until I was 16 weeks.   I gained 34lbs with #1 but I was 6 weeks early so I likely would have gained another 5lbs I would guess.  I had a large preemie and he would have been a 9lber had I been full term.

I am very scared about being huge during the worst part of the summer.....I am not looking forward to it.  I have already been looking at maxi dresses etc because there isn't a chance in hell Im going to want to be wearing anything tight during humid august!  Lord help us all :)

  • I think it depends alot on how tall you are and your torso. That said, I started to show early and knew I was going to be huge by the end, I looked ready to pop throughout the whole 3rd trimester.

  • just as something to add, I had an ultrasound on monday at 8 weeks 6 days and the baby/uterus was well above my pubic bone.  So, things like this could alter how early you show.
