With my daughter's birth I planned a home birth and after 25 hours of labor I had to transfer to the hospital and was given the choice of an epi and rest or a csection (I took the epi). It was a let down that things didn't go as planned but I was happy to have a healthy baby girl.
This time around we've been planning a water birth since the get go and picked our hospital (and midwifery practice) because of our water birth plans. The hospital is an hour away so we've made some sacrifices so that this would work. I had an ultrasound at 29 weeks and found out that my baby has a single umbilical artery (instead of the normal two). Even though everything has checked out as completely normal and the baby is in the 75th percentile I got a call today saying that the midwives had a meeting and decided that I couldn't do a water birth.
I know that they probably have liability reasons for saying no that are valid but it's still a bummer to have things not go as planned the second time around either. This is our last baby so I'm just going to have to give up my water birth dream.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear this, especially because I am in the same situation.
They found the SUA at my anatomy scan, and at first I was very worried about my plans for a home birth/water birth. The doctor at the u/s that I just followed up with a few days ago said that there is no reason I can't have a natural birth (though I didn't mention the home/water birth aspect), and the back-up doctor for the midwives said that as long as I continue to get follow up u/s and her growth remains fine then he has no problem with it, and the midwives said if he is ok with it then so are they. The midwives said that typically, with someone who has been with a midwifery from the beginning and didn't get ultrasounds, they wouldn't even discover the SUA until delivery and thus it shouldn't be a problem. My baby is in the 70th percentile and measuring a week ahead.
I wish I had something more encouraging to say other than to share my experience, but perhaps you could try and look for another midwife or practice that might allow it? Mine haven't been concerned at all, I'm more concerned than they are, so just a thought? Wishing you all the best! And feel free to pm me if you want to chat more about the SUA.
I think I would consider switching if I hadn't just been through the process. We decided that we were going to switch from our home birth plans to a hospital birth because of insurance reasons (free hospital birth with water birthing options vs $3,000 oop for a home birth). The switch was extremely complicated and I don't think I can handle the hassle again. It seems like with SUA every doctor/midwife is SO different in their opinions on things. Some want to deliver early others don't (and I'm glad my midwife thinks I'll be able to go into labor on my own). Are they having you do NSTs? I'm doing a growth ultrasound at 34 weeks (next week) but it doesn't sound like they are going to do a whole lot more as far as monitoring because at the last ultrasound baby was measuring in the 75th percentile.
