Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Talk to me about baby proofing you've done

Our son is a bit over 10 months now, and didn't start crawling until a few weeks ago. We have gotten away with literally zero baby "proofing" but it's high time. I combed Amazon and wow, people are passionate about their outlet cover reviews. So much so that I've kind of gone cross-eyed trying to figure out what to get.

I know we need to get outlet covers. Do you like the ones you have? Brand?

Drawers: DS looooooves drawers. He does not love his fingers being eaten by them, and I don't either. I know he'll probably learn hard and fast to keep his delicious little fingers clear of them if he gets them pinched a couple of times, but I'm not really down to let that unfold without trying to protect him, and sitting with him for an hour while he opens and closes a drawer is getting a little mind numbing. Have you any success with drawer locks? I'd prefer not to have to use tools to install. :)

Cupboards: Did you get locks for them? Worth it?

What am I missing? 20 million things? Thanks!

  • We got locks for our cabinets, outlet covers, and replaced our door stops. We had the kind that is  a spring with a little rubber knob on it, LO found them to be so amusing and ripped the rubber knobs off! Choking hazard!

We are also going to be getting corner covers for one piece of furniture with sharp corners, a TV anchor strap (she can't reach it yet), a toilet lock, finger savers for the doors, and a furniture wall strap for two pieces of large furniture.

Oh and baby gates of course. We got the munchkin walk through gate.

  • Baby gates were a must.  Did not originally have them, but dd favorite activity was to climb the stairs by herself.  Anchors for the furniture.  Locks on cabinets with cleaning supply.  Didn't do others cabinets.

  • We got outlet covers, cupboard locks for under our sink where all our potentially harmful stuff is, we locked the drawer that holds the steak and other sharp knives, we got straps to tie down all large tip able furniture, we got gates for the utility room which is where we keep all the cleaning supplies and knob locks for all the rooms. we also sealed the dog food in a big plastic container and tie strapped all power cords and tucked them under the entertainment center, and trimmed all the cords on our blinds so they are only an inch long when they are down all the way. we have also added a few more smoke detectors because we live in an old trailer.
