Silent Reflux

I'm pretty sure LO has silent reflux. He cries when eating, arches his back afterwards, has noisy breathing, hiccups a lot, and coughs and seems to choke sometimes. About the only think he doesn't have is blood in his stool. Today I've been keeping him upright after eating but my back is killing me from holding him. He's not the biggest fan of his swing just yet but will sometimes fall asleep in it. Anyone dealing with silent reflux? What are you doing to help? Did you switch formula? He's currently on Similac Sensitive. He has a dr's appointment on the 1st but I'm trying to keep him as comfortable as possible until then.

Re: Silent Reflux

  • I don't know anything about reflux.  I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

I am a fan of babywearing though.  Have you tried it with your LO at all?  Might help you to easily keep him upright so you're not stuck uncomfortably holding him all day.

He does like the moby wrap (I've had him in it a couple times) and I may start using it more to keep him upright. It's so nice having both arms free!

My DD has reflux. I called the pediatrician and described the symptoms and they brought us in. After an exam and discussing symptoms, they prescribed axid a medicine for reflux. She is so much happier now that she's taking it and stopped projectile vomiting over everything 100 times a day. Now she only spits up a few times. Definitely keep LO upright and burp often, but think about getting an appointment sooner!

Glad you LO is feeling better. My guy isn't spitting up though so that's why I'm not 100 it's silent reflux or something else. He's eating fine and all just fussy afterwards but if it's unmanageable I'll definitely try and get his appointment bumped up.

  • We just went in yesterday for some of the same symptoms. Dr gave her zantac and he said it may take a week to see full results.

  • Same symptoms with my son. Doc said it was acid reflux, perscribed Zantac and its gotten better a week and a half later. Not completely gone though so going to talk to him about if we should up it a little more at his apt next week.

burping in the middle of this feeding has helped a little as well.

  • I've been keeping LO upright or at an angle after feeding and he's napping much better today! I'm just trying to avoid the Dr telling me to put cereal in his bottles. Apparently that's one of the other major recommendations.
