Today at my boys' one month appt their pediatrician mentioned that he has all of his multiples patients have an ultrasound to look for hip dysplasia to catch it earlier rather than later so it can be dealt with as best as possible.
It caught me off guard since I wasn't expecting it... have any of y'all done this? Does this seem excessive? It isn't done in their office, so they won't profit from the procedures - we have to take them to Children's for the ultrasounds...
Just curious if this is normal and if there is any reason not to do it.

Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!
The pediatrician I had when my girls were newborns never mentioned it to me; I had no idea about hip dysplasia until we moved to another state and the new dr mentioned it for Baby B since she was breech at delivery (but never stayed in one position). She was too old for an u/s by the time the new office saw them for their first new patient check up. The dr said we will just keep an eye on it since she seems fine and has passed her physical exams with flying colors, and is running like crazy everywhere.
The new dr said it (dysplasia) can be common in multiples because of the cramped space to grow and typically at least one twin/trip is breech.
I would have definitely had the u/s when B was younger if it would have been offered, even though now I'm pretty sure she's just fine.
