Sedated BAER

I looked in the FAQs, but didn't see any responses in the hearing loss or sedated procedures FAQs.

My DS is going to have a sedated BAER hearing test done. I was just wondering if any one had any tips, good questions to ask, or first hand experiences to share.

Thanks!

Re: Sedated BAER

  • Our daughter had her's just before she turned two, so wasn't aware of much...the hardest part was keeping her happy while waiting for the procedure since she couldn't eat anything.  Other than the anesthesia, the test is non-invasive and quick.  My advise is get the 1st appt of the day and bring lots of distractions with you, for both you and your kiddo.

I hadn't thought of that! Thank you!

  • Mine had one at 3-4 months, but wasn't knocked out on that one. I was able to get him to go to sleep. Now on the CT scan or MRI (can't remember which one) he was sedated and they warned me about how scary it can look when the sedation kicks in, but it wasn't bad at all, IMO. Just like he fell asleep. Not sure why they spent so much time prepping me on that. Just make sure to have a bottle or snack available for right after, since LO will be hungry. I didn't and the hospital had to hunt down some juice (with no nipple, so that was fun trying to get Lo to drink)...Like PP said - get the earliest apt of the morning.

Thanks, I can see forgetting to bring anything! MOTY right there! :)
